Local start-up businesses are in for a potential injection of cash into their enterprise, thanks to Duleek & District news, and income gen- erated by local business through advertising in D&Dnews! Revenues raised between October 2014 - October 2015 will be di- rected into four new companies or non-profit organisations in the area. If all indicators are correct and the sustained growth of this newsletter continues, D&D news should be able to give €1,500 to the start ups. Local businessman, entrepreneur and Dragon, Gavin Duffy, will be called upon to assist in the selec- tion of candidates with ideas for new business. These new starts up will not be lacking business mentor- ing or a support network. ‘Imagine how great it would be that this newsletter of ours could be the start of the creation of more jobs within our community. This is the beauty of supporting local always and heralding all that is great within our community,’ said Cllr Sharon Keogan. The non-profit monthly publication was set up in December 2012 by Cllr Sharon Keogan, with its first print edition released in August 2013. 4,000 copies were distributed every month throughout the parishes of Duleek, Donore, Bellewstown, Cur- raha, Ardcath, Clonalvy and Cushinstown, with Stamullen and Kentstown added 12 months later. Monies generated through advertis- ing in this community publication between August 2013- August 2014 were presented to St Andrew’s Parish, Ardcath, Clonalvy and Cur- raha, St Mary's Parish, Donore and St Cianan’s Parish, Duleek with €1000 going to each. D&D news also supports the pay- ment of the local Duleek & District Text Alert phone bill monthly which amounts to €420.00 annually. The office employs two part-time staff in the office, an editor and graphic designer. The newsletter is printed by Anglo Printers in Drogheda, thus supporting local business. Monthly delivery service costs are €120 per month, and the young distribution team is highly valued. In 2015, plans are to expand and improve this community newsletter, with the employment of another part-time employee This community initiative has be- come a great marketing tool for the many businesses within our local areas and a great network for com- munity groups and organisations to tell the wider community of their successes and promote upcoming events. Christmas came early for 32 members and friends from Duleek Women’s Forumwith a very enjoyable five day trip to Manchester for early Christmas shopping.Travelling with DM Tours they stayed at the very comfortable Brittania CountryHouse Hotel where many of the ladies enjoyed the fun of jacuzzi baths in theirbedrooms where the staff were most welcoming and meals were of a high stan-dard - two Buffet Nights and two lavish themed Party Nights. The ladies playedBingo each night, had a number of wins and enjoyed the cabaret. Shopping was a priority with visits to Cheshire Oaks, the Trafford Centre, Man-chester Christmas Markets, and Lowry Shopping Centre. Footie fans - or hus-bands and sons left at home - were included with quick stops at Anfield for theLiverpool fans and Old Trafford for the Man United fans.Very well organised by both Lorraine Cunningham and Gretta McGuinness, with the help of Anne Finger who stayed at home to make sure Duleek survivedwithout them!
