God Bless You !!!
In this week's Gospel Reading and next week's, our Advent preparation for Christmas invites us to consider John the Baptist and his relationship to Jesus. In this week's Gospel, Ma'hew describes the work and preaching of John the Baptist. John the Baptist appears in the tradition of the great prophets of Israel, preaching repentance and reform to the people of Israel. In fact, the description of John found in this reading is reminiscent of the description of the prophet Elijah (2 Kings 1:8). In this reading, John directs a particularly pointed call to repentance to the Pharisees and Sadducees, parties within the Jewish community of the first century. John marks the conversion of those who seek him out with a baptism of repentance. Other groups in this period are thought to have practiced ritual washings for similar purposes, and John's baptism may have been related to the practices of the Essenes, a Jewish sect of the first century. John's baptism can be understood as an anticipation of Christian baptism.

Knights of Columbus Sale at St. John’s Today "The Knights of Columbus will be taking orders for their Christmas "Kringle" pastry after Masses on the weekend of December 7/8. The Kringle pastry is new this year and replaces the strudel due to a change in suppliers. We believe you will find it to be just as delicious and will be a new traditional holiday treat for your family!! Orders will be available for pick-up after the Masses on December 14/15. The Kringle price is $22 which is the same as the previous Strudel price. The proceeds from the Kringle sales help support Seminarians and women in the novitiate from the Bloomington parishes. Through your previous participation in Strudel sales, the K of C last year gave a total of $1,500 to two diocesan seminarians and a novice. Thanks to all who help us in this charity!
ST. JOHN’S AND ST. JUDE’S NCYC GROUPS 20,000 young people from all over the country converged on Indianapolis for the bi-annual convention for young people to embrace and dive deeper into their beloved Catholic faith. An experience of a life-time that both parishes were able to experience together.
Retirement Fund for Religious Today Support aging religious. Many senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests served for li'le or no
pay. Today, religious communities often do not have enough savings to meet retirement needs. Your gift helps provide medications, nursing care, and more for tens of thousands of elderly religious. It also helps ensure younger members can continue the good works of their elders. Please be generous.
The Story of Our Lady of Guadalupe A poor Indian named Cuauht-latohuac was baptized and given the name Juan Diego. He was a 57-year-old widower, and lived in a small village near Mexico City. On Satur-day morning December 9, 1531, he was on his way to a nearby barrio to a'end Mass in honor of Our Lady. Juan was walking by a hill called Tepeyac when he heard beautiful music like the war-bling of birds. A radiant cloud appeared, and within it stood an Indian maiden dressed like an Aztec princess. The lady spoke to him in his own language and sent him to the bishop of Mexico, a Franciscan named Juan de Zumarraga. The bishop was to build a chapel in the place where the lady appeared. Eventually the bishop told Juan to have the lady give him a sign. About this same time Juan’s uncle became seriously ill. This led poor Juan to try to avoid the lady. Nevertheless the lady found Juan, assured him that his uncle would recover, and provided roses for Juan to carry to the bishop in his cape or tilma. On December 12, when Juan Diego opened his tilma in the bish-op’s presence, the roses fell to the ground, and the bishop sank to his knees. On the tilma where the roses had been appeared an image of Mary exactly as she had appeared at the hill of Tepeyac.

Advice from the Saints "The adorable Heart of Jesus is our comfort, our way, our
life."— St. Frances Xavier Cabrini "
"We know certainly that our God calls us to a holy life. We know that he gives us every grace, every abundant
grace; and though we are so weak of ourselves, this grace is able to carry us through every obstacle and difficulty."
— St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
Commemorating the Incarnation V. The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary. R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. (Hail Mary) V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord. R. Be it done unto me according to Thy word. (Hail Mary) V. And the Word was made flesh. R. And dwelt among us. (Hail Mary) V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may, by His Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of His resurrection. Through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.
St. Jude Bake Sale—Today, December 8th Our bake sale benefits our Angel Jar. Need has no season, but we do try and give a bit of extra love out during this special time of year.
