Our Lady of the Angels Parish Family Advent Festival Join us for the Advent Festival on Tuesdays at 7pm in SGH. Sessions will be continued Dec 7, 14 th and 21 st . Come and decorate your own Advent Wreath or one of ours, learn about Jesus’ genealogy and help make a parish Jesse Tree, reflect on Mary as she awaits Jesus’ birth and join in a parish Reconciliation service. Bring some cookies to share. We’ll make the hot chocolate! Christmas Concert Get in the spirit of the Christmas Season and join us for an Angelus Chorus Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 12 th at 4:00 PM. Light refreshments in St. Gabriel’s Hall following Concert. PASTOR’S CORNER FYI: Things are more expensive this Christmas. In fact the cost of the “12 Days of Christmas” has gone up 10.8% and it will now cost you $100,000 for those little gifts to put under the pear tree. It’s also no secret that the greatest gift we can give one another has already been paid for. The “redeemer” Jesus Christ, has already paid the price of our eternal redemption and given us the true “gift of peace” that the world cannot give and doesn’t even recognize. The only glitch is that we have to “pick it up.” Again I invite you to “come rejoicing” to the Altar of the Lord as often as you can and take part in the many Advent opportunities that our parish offers. As Christians we are in the Advent Season, waiting and preparing for the Lord. Our Christmas Season begins on Christmas Day and continues until the Baptism of the Lord. I always find it interesting that so many are trying to take “Christ” out of Christmas, maybe it is time for us all to do that very thing. It seems to make so much more sense to put Christ and mass back into our homes and daily living where He wants to be rather than in the malls, shopping, decorations and fakery that take the Spirit of Christmas out of Christmas. By the time Christmas Day is over we are soooo finished with the Spirit of Christmas when we should be just beginning. This year I encourage you to look past the materialism of the season and celebrate Christmas Tide rejoicing for those twelve glorious days that are our “Christmas Season”. Mary and Joseph prepared, not with hustle and bustle, but with prayer, thanksgiving and time together as a family. When Jesus was born they were spiritually prepared and ready to celebrate His coming. As I put up my Christmas Decorations during Advent, something I really enjoy, I will offer prayers for you and your families. I will pray that your Advent preparation helps you to recognize and welcome the Christ Redeemer who is the bringer of the greatest gifts that take a lifetime to unwrap. PS. WE HAVE DECIDED TO CELEBRATE A 5:00 PM MASS ON CHRISTMAS DAY.

Scrip Gift Card

Thank You parishioners for purchasing scrip. Your support has made this effort a success. Special thanks to the scrip team for volunteering their time to sell scrip, and of course, the office staff. Checks are most welcome. Your continued support is appreciated and an easy way to aid in our parish’s financial health.

Social Justice

“The practice of peace and justice in our relationships and our daily occupations does not lend itself to Hollywood special effects. It is hard, unglamorous work that does not register on the Richter scale.”

Holiday Gift Cards

Holiday Gift Cards for your favorite retailers will be available for your holiday gift shopping. Look for your order forms in the gathering space or at the parish center. Orders need to be placed in advance. Our second and final deadline is Thursday, December 9th. Make your holiday shopping easier while benefiting OLA. Many retailers offer profits between 1.5% & 13% for this kind of fundraiser. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

Hope and Help Outreach

We are collecting food for our Christmas baskets, if you wish to help, you may leave your contribution of canned or dried food in the baskets in the Gathering Space. If you know of someone in our Parish who needs temporary help please call the Parish Center 465-5432. Our Giving Tree is up in the Gathering Space. We are asking for gift card donations to the various department stores. If you would like to purchase them through the Holiday Gift Card Program you will not only be helping the needy, but also OLA and will get a head start on your Christmas shopping. A special “Thank You” to Court House Diner for so generously providing Turkey dinners, with all the trimmings for our parish family members who were alone and not able to cook for themselves. Also, thank you to all who so generously contributed turkeys and all the trimmings for our Thanksgiving baskets. We were able to make the holiday a happy occasion for our families in need.

Art/Environment Ministry

“Older” Damsels in Distress! The Art and Environment Ministry needs several volunteers who are secure on ladders and able to do some heavy lifting.
