Isaiah proclaims that the state of the people has been overturned by “a great light.” Oppression and gloom have been overcome; the power and graciousness of God brings rejoicing. And the most amazing feat of all is that it is a child who brings this about; his Kingdom will be forever. The psalmist calls on the Israelites to rejoice, for our saving God has come! All the nations, all of crea- tion—the earth and the seas are to join in the rejoic- ing. Singing this psalm fills us with joy as we, too, celebrate the coming of the Lord of salvation. In his letter to Titus, Paul affirms that the grace of God has already been bestowed on believers. They can live as those whose hope of salvation is already assured by the Lord. In this expectation they (and we) enter another time of waiting-for the coming of the Lord in glory in the future. Until then they are to live devoutly and justly. Luke’s account of the birth of Jesus is one of rhe most familiar texts of the new Testament. The de- tails are so familiar. This humble scene has inspired centuries of art, from great masterpieces to the school pageant. Luke situates the birth of Jesus in the course of history and I the midst of the everyday public life of secular rulers and humble shepherds alike. But this is no ordinary birth event. The child is “of the house and family of David.” He is the ful- fillment of God’s promise that has stirred the hearts of God’s people for generations. The humble sur- roundings point to the nature of Jesus’ mission, and the future of humankind is forever changed in this night. What names for the Messiah is today’s readings ap- peal to you? What might prevent a person from entering into the full joy of the Nativity? If you can, listen to Handel’s Messiah; what does it convey to you about this holy time? God has truly blessed us in some many ways. As stewards, we are asked to give back, tithe, to the Lord in thanksgiving for all he has given us. We, your parish family, ask that you keep us in mind as you prepare your year-end charitable giving for 2016. Your accountant or financial advisor can provide you with more information specific to your needs. YOUR YEAR-END

GIVING Makes a Difference

Thanks to all of you who donated time, money, turkeys, and groceries to the Christmas baskets this year: Because of your thoughtfulness we were able to help 25 families with 26 adults and 55 children. May God bless you for your gener-osity and may you have a very blessed year. A very special Thanks to the drivers who braved

the cold snow to deliver.

A baby, is a baby, is a baby Every child is unique and beautiful in God’s eyes, whether they are born or unborn. Their value and worth is immeasurable, but their vulnerability is also great. You can help take a stand to de-fent theses unborn people by supporting the Pregnancy Support Center and Hope House Maternity Home of Pampa. They are preparing for Sanctity of Human Life Sunday This day of re-membrance will be held on January 15th, 2017. This marks the 44th anniversary of the Roe v Wade decision that legalized abor-tion on demand. They will have their annual fundraiser Baby Bottle Benefit. The slogan being “Your Change can Change a Life.” Please help our community with your change! Baby bottles
