and responsibility, an ethics hotline for the use of employees, volunteers, parishioners, vendors and other interested parties is

being introduced. This service provides opportunity for confidential, anonymous reporting of suspected misconduct in financial

matters and human resource issues. Ethics Point, an independent third-party company, has been selected to offer all diocesan

parishes, schools, agencies and departments the opportunity to file reports via the web at www.patersondiocese.org or

through a call to 1-855-247-3140. For more information, check the Ethics Point link on the diocesan website.

Pastor’s Column

As we celebrate the feast of the birth of Jesus Christ, Yes, Jesus was born over

2,000 years ago but we celebrate his birth every year. Why do we celebrate this

every year? We celebrate our own birthdays while we are alive but he has died.

So why celebrate it! Jesus is not dead; he lives in the Eucharist and in our church

and in us.

Jesus is a present to us in the Eucharist; this “bread of heaven” nourishes us as

we receive Him at mass. This “bread of heaven” is there for us to visit. He is

present in our tabernacle for us to pay him adoration and pray to. Adoration is a

form of prayer we have forgotten. The church is open here at St. Simon’s for us to

stop in to visit the Lord and to take in the quiet of the space so that we can talk to

him in the quiet of our hearts.

Today, as we celebrate his birth, let us not forget the gift Jesus has given us. Yes,

the gift of Him becoming a human being like us so that he could redeem all of us.

Yes, he had to be both God and man to satisfy the Father for the original sin of

Adam and Eve. By his birth he starts to change our salvation history. The

promise made to our forefathers in faith is fulfilled. The Messiah is born to

redeem mankind.

So, as we celebrate the birth of Christ with gifts to each other let us remember to

bring a gift to the Lord. This gift is us as disciples of Jesus Christ. We give Him the

gift of ourselves through prayer and good works. We should be present to Him

and be present to others as Jesus was of service to everyone.

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus let us give thanks for our faith and sharing it

with each other as we wish each other a Merry Christmas.

May the New Born Babe bring you all the blessings of peace, health, and

prosperity in this Season and in the New Year.
