A MESSAGE FROM THE MC PRESIDENT Welcome home, fellow Alumni! We are proud to launch our maiden issue of Galing MC – the newsletter which aims to connect MC to the Maryknoll/Miriam College alumni community. “Galing MC” was the theme of the 2018 Grand Alumni Homecoming. It truly embodied the pride alumni had for Maryknoll/Miriam College, and the school’s pride in its Amazing Alumni. So we are grateful to the host batch, MCHS 1993, for agreeing to use Galing MC as our newsletter name. Enjoy scrolling through this e- newsletter filled with exciting updates from your alma mater. In our effort to reach out to you, we have recently created the MC Alumni Engagement Office (MC-AEO) led by fellow alumna Aurorita “Rorit” Marco-Mendoza (COL 68), and supported by Mary Ann “Mian” Alampay-Arcega (GS 01, HS 05). They will ensure that our alumni remain an integral part of the Miriam College community. The double meaning of “Galing MC” (excellence and ‘coming from’) pays tribute to what brings us together – a love for our Alma

Mater, no matter the name, and the spirit to carry forward its enduring values of generosity and excellence.

We thank the MMCAA Board (shown in photo) and the High School Class 1993 for a Homecoming that will long be remembered. For

Just recently, the MCHS Team placed first at the World Scholars’ Cup held in Yale University, and the Sayawatha took home the grand prize in yet another dance contest, and the MC Pep Squad recently bagged the 17th WCSA Cheerdance Competition. Watch their video here. Whether it be local or international events, academic contests or artistic competitions, Miriam College students proudly represent - and win! - for their Blue and Gold. TRUE TO THE MC MISSION: COMMUNITY OUTREACH Solidarity with communities in need continues to be a vital part of MC education. This is clearly embodied in the Service-Learning program of the Higher Education Unit (HEU) that enables students and faculty from the different colleges to collaborate with various communities as part of their course requirements. At present, there are twenty (20) classes whose students are linked to and serving communities around the Miriam College area. Photo shows Tourism and Leisure Management students working with community leaders of Barangay Salapan, San Juan on a proposed rehabilitation project of the San Juan River. The HEU deans are keen to expand the program to more classes in the future. Congratulations to our students and faculty for concretely demonstrating the MC mission and value of service. Alumni too have the opportunity to be part of an outreach program especially designed for alumni. This is the Miriam Volunteer Mission coordinated by the Miriam Identity, Service and Mission Office (MISMO) of the school. This program deploys alumni to various mission venues of the Maryknoll Sisters for a given period of time. Interested alumni can sign up through the Alumni Engagement Office, and we will be happy to liaise with MISMO on how you can have this extraordinary experience.
