Recently, seventy Year 10 students were heavily engaged in peer support training at the Bush Rangers AFL clubhouse. Three staff – Katrina Ferris, Sally Hennessy and Josh Lawler were amazing and commi ed throughout the two days. Congratula ons and thank you Katrina and staff involved. We have some fantas c students who will become Peer Support Leaders for 2018. Not sure how the staff will cut these students back to around 35. Good luck! Again, thanks for your efforts!

Students from both campuses of Denison College were very lucky during Week 9 to take part in the NSW State Emergency Services Cadet Training Program. Mr Paul Purser from Kelso High Campus supervised an outstanding group of 24 students (12 from each school) as they formed some new and life long friendships throughout the fun week of ac vi es. Over the course of 5 days; students par cipated in First Aid Training, tes ng ambulance equipment, cu ng a person from a wrecked car using the Jaws of Life and they also performed a daring water based rescue in the event of a flood emergency. The State instructors made several glowing comments about our amazing students, sta ng they were some of the best they had ever trained. The formal gradua on will take place early next year at a school assembly with possibly the Minister of Emergency Services. Well done to all involved and thanks Mr Purser.

Year 6 students are ge ng excited as a major milestone in their life approaches – High School. To help navigate this large change, the Vincent Fairfax Founda on is sponsoring a transi on program built around technology. Students have the opportunity to learn some of the computer programs we use in High School and familiarise themselves with our literacy conven ons. We visited all the Partner Primary schools, Bathurst West in week 2, Eglinton in week 3 and Bathurst Public in week 7.

A highlight for the primary students is being able to mix with a group of Year 10 students. Represen ng our

school were Abbey Kemp, Callum Goldfinch, Emma Jackson, Gina Bruce, Kelly Howard, Noah Dobson, Oden

Boulter, Paige Clarke, Sienna Cheevers and Siobhan Wilde. They provided valuable assistance to the Year 6

On the 22nd of November a number of Bathurst High students a ended the Australian Open Golf Pro‐am day at the Australian Golf Club in Sydney. This day sees the golf professionals play alongside different celebri es and tournament sponsors. Students had the opportunity to meet some of golf’s biggest stars and a number of celebri es including Jason Day, Jordan Speith, Ricky Pon ng and Llyeton Hewi . This excursion forms part of our Jack Newton Junior Golf Program and has hopefully inspired some of our students to pick up a golf club in the school holidays. A big thanks to Rocky for driving the bus on the day.

We Didn’t Get Caught!

On Friday, November 17, Harrison, Molly, Ian, Lachlan and Jason walked to the Court House to examine some of the things we had learned in our study of “The Law and You”. Rebecca Mayday was our guide and explained how the court func ons and gave us a brief history of the Court House built in 1880. Rebecca then took us to the local court where Magistrate Molly listened to the evidence put forward by solicitors Jason and Ian. Harrison provided an expert witness account while bad, bad Lachlan languished in the prisoner’s dock. We then went where most people are afraid to go. The holding cells!

Ms Ryan tried to lock us in but luckily Harrison was able to prevent the huge steel door from closing.

In the District Court we acted as jury and then re red to the jury room to consider our verdict. Judge Ian allowed us to visit in his chambers and suggested we consider Mrs Rouse ‘Not Guilty’. Having explored the Court House we then moved to the Council Chambers where the mayor, Mr Graeme Hanger, took us on a guided tour and quizzed us on what we had learned about the 3 ers of government and vo ng. This was followed by a wonderful morning tea in the Mayor’s Office where we all had a turn si ng at the mayoral desk wearing the mayoral chain of office (which weighs about 3 kilos. Ugh!) When we had demolished all the biscuits we thanked the Mayor and happily wandered back to school glad that we had not been caught! (Harrison, Mollie, Jason, Ian and Lachlan)
