News from HOA Chairman Ed Green

Merry Christmas, it’s nice to say this when it’s 80plus degrees outside. Special thanks should goout to our community social groups; given thecircumstances they are doing a phenomenal jobcoordinating all of the events. The North, the LTDand even WW South have united together tocontinue in these difficult times to bring you all ofthe regular activities. Time sometimes goes by soslowly and then you stop and wonder where did itgo. Your HOA is continuing to work with Sun andtheir contractor to bring you the best possibleclubhouse improvements. Yes it has taken muchlonger than planned but there have been somerather big changes to the plans trying to meeteveryone’s wants that is causing the setbacks. Each time the plan changes it has to go back tothe drawing board and resubmitted. This is onlygoing to happen once in our lifetime and yourHOA and Social committees are working very hardto bring you the best possible results.

After many hours of meetings with Sun SeniorManagement, the contractor and Citrus CountyBuilding and Fire code enforcement officers, hopefully construction should have started by thetime you are reading this article. On Friday,November 13, 3 members of your HOA Board metat the County Government Office in Lecanto withthe contractor to submit final plans for the firstphase of the clubhouse remodel. If things go asthey are planned right now we will be gettingeverything we ask for, a stove, a new modernkitchen, a nice dance floor, a permanent stage, handicap accessible bathrooms and much more,it has not been easy and I have to say I am verytired fighting for it. We are very fortunate to bereceiving it, and after I rest up I am going to bevery thankful to Sun for making this happen forour community. It will have been worth all of theproblems and the wait. (I sure hope they areworking when you are reading this).

(continued next column)

(continued from left column)

Your HOA needs the entire communities support, our goal for 2016 is to increase our membership toit highest level ever. We have many new residentswho may not know the need of support for theHOA, please encourage our new neighbors tosupport your HOA. Please re new yourmemberships, if you are a new resident join withyour neighbors and help us build a strong HOA. Inthe end everyone will benefit from it.

Every month it always needs to be said, pleasedrive slow, especially in the congested areasaround the dog park and the mail houses. Followthe rules, they are in place for your safety, park onthe street, not on someone’s sprinklers, if youhave a one car drive don’t park 2 cars in it. Don’tyell at the messenger; the rules apply to everyone, even you! The new street signs look very nice;hopefully people will abide by the speed limitsigns.

I would like to thank everyone who voted in favorof the By Laws amendment and I will continue towork for the betterment of the community foreveryone. See you around the Woods.

Happy Holidays

It’s Easy Going Green - Cathy Ewing

The month of DECEMBER is the one month that wecan ALL take a break!! If all your mulching isfinished and leaves are raked off the grass, then youcan rest this month. Now is the time to join thegarden club. We will probably have the first meetingat Cathy Ewing's house.

We have found a beautiful flower named DwarfPrincess Flower. Instead of unsightly hedges outfront of your home, you can add these bushesinstead. They require very little care and water. When you plant them, use moist vermiculite orperlite and miracle grow planting soil. Mix them upwith peat moss and let them sit overnight in a largebucket or wheel barrow. Plant the bushes above theroot line and they will flourish in the spring. Theaverage size for princess flower is 10" high by 5’ to6’ across. Dig a hole two times the width of thepot. Pick up the root ball, and place even with theground level. Backfill with soil mixture and tampdown. Apply a time release fertilizer and at least 3"layer of mulch around the base. These come in avariety of colors such as purple, orchid, yellow andlight orange.

Also, the perennial peanut will last through extendeddrought, salt exposure, and blazing full sun. It isidentical to the sweet pea flower and can be used asa ground cover. They are a bright yellow flower andare 4 to 5 " tall. The botanical name is (ArachisGlabrata). I must give these two flowers a 10 ormore!!!

If you are a crafter, you can use your holly branchesor pine tree branches or pine cones, spray paintthem silver or gold on your lamp post or doorwreaths or garland. I always use thin branches ofmany types of trees and paint them white fordecorations in my artificial flower decorations on mycenterpiece flowers along with real Baby’s Breathand seed pods, etc. for unique displays.

God bless everyone in Walden Woods andthroughout the world.

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMASAND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Notes from the Editor

I want to thank everyone for their kind

words on the new “look & feel” of the

Gazette. Please get your submissions

in between the 16th and 19th of the

month.

There has been a bit of confusion with

the various events “calendars.” As

such, I have eliminated all but the

monthly calendar found on the last two

pages. I split it into two pages to allow

for better readability.

‘ Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I’m back !!! I missed a couple issues, but will try harder to get my page in on time.

I would again like to thank everyone for the cards and support after my Dad passed away. It makes me

feel good to know people care. I will miss him greatly, but have wonderful memories.

As many of you know, my husband Ed and I have purchased a home here in Walden Woods. We truly love

it here and plan to be here a long time. NO more moving ! Hopefully this also shows my commitment to

this Community that I care so much about.

Just a few items from my desk:

Please make sure you return your Resident Information Sheet to the office. If you don’t have

one, please come pick one up. These are very important, we need correct information in case

of an emergency or we need to call you.

Remember no dogs should be left unattended outside, on your carport or your lanai. Our rules

state they must be on a leash and with their owner. They are never to be let run loose. We

have had a couple instances lately with dogs getting attacked by a dog from WW, running

loose.

Now that a lot of you are back, please make sure you are getting your homes and landscaping

cleaned up: power washing (home & driveway), weeding, painting shutters or awnings,

carports empty of outside storage, etc.

NO parking on lawns or sideways at the end of your driveway, if you have more than one vehicle

and your driveway doesn't have room for more, then please park at one of the clubhouses

(only for short periods of time)

And of course NO SPEEDING. Please be careful and keep it down to 15 MPH.

I hope everyone has a Happy & Safe Thanksgiving. Enjoy the people around you and remember the ones

that aren’t. I love this time of year.

Belinda “aka” B

The large print books and cookbooks in the library have been moved to a different wall foryour convenience. They are now where the movies used to be. Please take as many VHSmovies as you would like; we’re trying to decrease the number of them since many homesdon’t even have VCRs anymore. Pet of the Month

Hello everybody! My name is Pete. I am a

handsome male feline – yellow and white, bob tail,

half grown stud. I’m a little reluctant to make this

confession, but since we are just getting to know

each other, and plan to be everlasting friends: I

was born June 30, 2015, along with four siblings, to

an unwed mother! There, I said it, I’m not proud of

my heritage, but don’t judge me by the questionable

behavior of my parents! We were fortunate enough

to have been rescued and lovingly cared for by a

most generous lady named, Gail, until we were old

enough to be delivered to our forever homes. My

brother, Ziggy adopted by Penny, a beautiful lady

next door – sadly, I don’t know where the other

three went.

“A Dark Double Chocolate Christmas”

Ed. Note: A few years ago a friend of mine called and asked if I had a recipe for Chocolate Brownies. She had been making ‘boxedingredient” brownies for her grand-daughter in Norway for years, and now wanted to know “Mormor’s” recipe. After giving her my bestrecipe, I sat down and wrote the following story, ala O’Henry’s “Gift of the Magi.” - I hope you enjoy!!

The house was decorated as usual for the Christmas Season. The tree, freshly cut, was ready for the traditionaltrimming. Eggnog was brewing on the stove and the fireplace gently warmed the room. Christmas carols blaredjoyously from the MP3 player. And Julia… well Julia was in the kitchen preparing what had become the traditionfor ringing in the Christmas celebration … the baking of the “Christmas Brownies.”

Each year, Julia would go to the market and buy only the freshest of ingredients for the seasonal treat; fineGerman bitter cooking chocolate; the best of cooking oil; eggs laid just that morning; even purified water to addto the mix. But somehow, in some way, always something was missing. The sights, smells, and sounds aroundher brought back those most wonderful memories of her Grandmother’s brownies. They were perhaps the bestand finest brownies ever baked. Not too gooey, nor chocolaty; rather the perfect concoction of ingredients thatevinced incredible sensations on the tongue and filled the belly with “oh so goodness.” Yet each year she failed. And at this point in her life the torture of not being able to recreate the perfect Christmas Brownie was beginningto take its awful toll on her. Her features became gray and gaunt just before each Christmas season began, andone could discern a growing sense of utter failure with every passing year.

Due to distance and difficulty with travel, her Grandmother had not been able to visit for many a Christmas. Theresponsibility to carry on this most cherished Christmas tradition had fallen to Julia. The sense that she wasfailing miserably at doing so was almost more than her young, frail psyche could bear. And the thought thetradition would no doubt cease with her added additional stress and depression.

Then, one cold early December day, the news Julia feared most arrived in the post. Worried that herGrandmother was gravely ill and likely would not last through this most cherished holiday, and knowing she hadjust one last chance to set the tradition straight, Julia spent her last kroner to buy a ticket to the United States.Yes… so far away… but surely the secret could not go unknown.

(Continued from Page 12)

After the long and arduous trek from the far northern frozen expanse of Norway to the unfamiliar hustleand bustle of urban Washington, DC, Julia quickly jumped into a taxi and made her way to the WashingtonHospital Center. Julia had always loved her grandmother, but at the same time had she had been secretlyjealous of the “Brownie Recipe” that her grandmother guarded carefully. And now, there was a tinge ofanimus in poor Julia’s spirit as she quickly ducked into a taxi at Dulles Airport. After all, her Mormor couldhave shared this precious recipe many years ago, thus negating the need for this difficult journey.

Arriving at the hospital, Julia hastily paid the driver, not even concerned that she didn’t wait for changefrom the large bill she handed over. She rushed up the steps and through the revolving front door anddesperately searched for the information desk. Ah there! There it was. Julia almost sprinted to the deskand blurted out, “My grandmother… Gramma, my Mormor… where can I find her?” The kind face behindthe desk could sense the woman’s desperation and calmly replied, “I’ll need a bit more information dear, what is her last name?” Julia quickly blurted out, “Carroll, no wait, is it McMartin? I’m so confused! Yes,yes, it’s McMartin now.” The attendant calmly said, “Room 212, take the elevator to your right then ask atthe nursing station on the 2nd floor.” Julia raced to the elevators and pressed the attention button. Itseemed a lifetime for the elevator to arrive and with each passing second Julia’s anxiety multiplied ten-fold. When the door opened Julia rushed into the elevator, nearly injuring the old man who was trying toexit.

Julia exited on the second floor and urgently searched for the nursing station. Ah! There it was! Sherushed to the desk and as she did, the culmination of desperation, frustration, worry, and fatigue caughtup with her all at once. When she asked where Room 212 was, the nurse pointed down the hall to the left. The nurse then said, “We have been waiting for you Julia. Your father called and alerted us of your arrival.”

Emotionally drained, tears flowed freely down her face, finally revealing just how difficult a journey this hadbeen. The nurse then indicated that the news of her visit had breathed a bit of happiness and strength inthe old woman. The truth was that the grandmother was barely clinging to the last vestiges of what hadbeen a long and difficult battle. Julia pushed down the hall and rushed into Room 212. There she saw herbeloved Mormor. She sensed that the elderly woman was in an extremely frail condition, but had no ideajust how dire the situation was. Upon seeing Julia, the grandmother managed a weak, but warm andgenuine smile. Almost sensing the reason and urgency of Julia’s presence, the grandmother gestured forJulia to pull close to her.

Julia complied with her grandmother’s wishes. As she did, the grandmother reached up and gently pulledJulia’s ear near her lips. Then, as she expired, the old woman uttered the precious words that Julia solonged to hear…

I am the most fortunate of the group because I was legally adopted by

Bob and Faye, However, my caretaker while they are out working, is the

sweetest, most caring human in the whole wide world and I love her with

all my little ole heart, Grandi! I am a little bundle of joy, I go 90 mph for

about 30 minutes, terrorizing the entire family, then hibernate about 30

minutes, refueling for the next episode. This schedule is repeated

several times a day, and sometimes until bed time. I’ve breathed life into

Tude, the white Persian they adopted last year, who did nothing but eat,

sleep and gaze out the windows from her special perches. I’m pleased

to say the two of us have become great friends. I’m also pleased that I
