Thank you for your interest in the Huron-Clinton Metroparks . The Metroparks provide a natural oasis from urban and suburban life, making available an ever-growing variety of outdoor recreational and educational activities year-round in safe, clean environments . Picnicking, fishing, golfing, swimming, boating, hiking, nature study, biking, golf, disc golf, winter sports and a host of special outdoor programs and events are just some of the activities available within a short drive for southeast Michigan residents .

With a strong commitment to environmental education and preservation, the Metroparks operates nine full-service interpretive centers — nature, farm and historical — that provide a variety of programs, both on- and off-site, for almost 1 .75 million people annually . An additional interpretive center, the Mobile Learning Center, is a fully-stocked vehicle packed with exhibits and hands-on activities . Visiting schools and community centers, as well as appearing at festivals and events throughout southeast Michigan, the Mobile Learning Center brings the Metroparks to you .

Within this booklet, you will find a calendar of activities and events held in all of our 13 Metroparks from December through Memorial Day 2015 . Find something new and exciting to do at the Metroparks and “Get Out and Play!”

You can help keep the Metroparks a beautiful and vital part of community life by becoming a Friend of the Metroparks . Your contributions will help to maintain and improve the Metroparks so that you and others may continue to enjoy them for generations to come .

Become a Friend of the Metroparks, and your fully tax-deductible donation will be used to maintain and improve recreational trails, preserve natural habitats or wherever

it is needed most . Your gift will support these critical needs and establish your membership in a society determined to protect and maintain the Metroparks .

“The Metroparks provide lakefront property for those of us who can’t afford lakefront property. We want to be sure the Metroparks succeed.”

–Ted Collins, Taylor, MI

PARK

Twenty-one years ago, a pair of owls at Lake St . Clair Metropark tried unsuccessfully to build a nest using leafy squirrel nests that would fall apart . Volunteer and local bird bander, Tom Heatley suggested using an aluminum washtub, with holes in the bottom and filled with woodchips and sticks to provide a sturdy nest for owls . It was just what the birds needed and great horned owls have reared close to 30 baby owls over the years .

This 2,625-acre Metropark, nestled against the banks of the north branch of the Clinton River in Ray Township, offers many activities for visitors. Visit a late-20th century working farm, then drive a few miles to the Historic Center. See historic Wolcott Mill, built in the 1840s and one of few historic grist and feed mills remaining today, and visit the barn museum. Or, grab your clubs and play the 18-hole golf course.
