Regardless of age or how strong you may believe your faith to be, the devil is persistent

and attacks believers from all angles. But, I do know that in Matthew 28:20, The Lord tells us

that “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." This promise is very evident with

the greatest gift we will ever receive and that is Jesus. This Christmas I pray and challenge that all

keep CHRIST in Christmas.

As we celebrate and prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of the Savior to free us

from sin and death, Christmas has also become one of the most stressful times of the year. Many

businesses feel pressure to make sales, knowing that their profit for the year is often dependent

on purchases of presents. Others are entertaining friends and family and feel anxiety as they

prepare meals and celebrations. Even children might experience the strain and nervousness of

being in a Christmas worship services.

Instead of making Christmas a time of stress, we need to do what Paul did and look at

Christ's incarnation as an opportunity to reflect on the overwhelming grace of God that

appeared that first Christmas Day. That grace not only saves us without any work on our part,

but also grants us the assurance of eternal life so that we might be encouraged to live profitable

lives of holiness as we await Jesus' reappearing. May our Christmas celebration be one where we

are relieved of the world's stress because we are assured of the greatest Christmas present of

all--eternal life with Christ our Savior.

help because of an illness in the family, financial problems, or something similar. Please

call the church office at 567-5001 or come to the Lord's Cupboard food pantry on the 1st or

3rd Mondays between 5:30 and 6:30 pm to sign up. Sign up ends on December 10th. You

can pick up the bags on December 17th between 5:30 and 6:30 pm in the school lobby.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

Madison Area Concert Handbells (MACH) is beginning

its 17th year of musical service to the community and

state. This auditioned community choir performs with

over six octaves of handbells and seven octaves of

handchimes, the largest assemblage of such instruments in

Wisconsin. One of the nation's finest handbell choirs,

MACH's members share over 250 years of ringing

experience and are directed by Brad Schultzl, MACH's

music director. One of St. Paul’s members, Sara Junio,

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a call to action to celebrate giving and encourage increased personal philanthropy. It is a day set aside for focusing on supporting the nonprofits most meaningful to the giver.

Giving Tuesday, December 3, follows on the heels of "Cyber Monday," "Small Business Saturday" and "Black Friday" which are events that benefit the retail industry and kick off the holiday shopping frenzy. In a full-circle

move, Giving Tuesday partners conceived the idea of a day for amplifying small acts of kindness to supercharge

giving in an effort to change the world for the better.

In creating a day focused on giving to charitable efforts, Giving Tuesday aspires to instill in others the joy of

philanthropic giving!

The LCMS is joining in the Giving Tuesday movement and encouraging gifts to the LCMS Global Mission Fund.

St. Paul's is joining this effort, too, and encouraging gifts to our Fund-A-Family scholarship fund. Please

prayerfully consider amplifying small acts of kindness on this special day.

THE BOARD OF SERVICE AND MISSION OUTREACH UPDATE

Thanksgiving food bags-on Monday, November 18th, 125 families were given a Thanksgiving Food Bag with a frozen turkey (which a St. Paul's member generously donated 150 turkeys!). There will be a minimum of 30 volunteers helping to make this a wonderful outreach to our community between the Kindergarten class who decorated the bags, the Youth Group who will deliver the bags to the Senior Apartments, the people who packed the bags and the people who organized, shopped and will hand out the bags.

Christmas food bags-on Monday, December 16th, we anticipate giving out 125 Christmas food bags with a ham. We will be asking for monetary donations for the hams. We will also be serving a traditional Christmas meal to the people from our community and the members of St. Paul's are welcome to come and enjoy the fellowship!

Christmas Caring Tree-there are ornaments on the Christmas trees located in the narthex and outside the gym with names of children (under 18) from the Oconomowoc area that are requesting items so that their Christmas will be a little brighter. There are also names of the residents of Bethesda that really appreciate being remembered. Please return these gifts to the trees or the church office by December 9th.

Lord's Cupboard Pantry and Monthly Meal-on Monday, November 18th, we served a traditional Thanksgiving meal to the people from our community. Between the pantry and the meal, there were approximately 20 volunteers putting this all together and we served about 115 meals and gave out bags of food to about 50 families.

Service Men and Women-we will be sending care packages to the military people on St. Paul's prayer list that we have their contact information. If you know of someone who should be on the prayer list or if you have any information on the people on the list, please contact the church office.

Large Print Bibles for Romania-we raised money at 2 Time to Grow meals to send to Outstretched Hands of Romania who are requesting large print bibles for the elderly in their congregation. This is a mission that you can find out more information by going to the Service and Mission Outreach bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall or contact Jamie Stache.

Board of Evangelism John 5:24, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”

Salvation comes through hearing the Word. How can people hear the Word unless we share it? How much must we hate somebody NOT to share the greatest gift ever given to us? Harsh but true.

This is what evangelism is all about. Our salvation is complete grace through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God has commissioned us to share it. Let’s Go!!

The Board of Evangelism is growing and strengthening, focusing on proclaiming the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Some things we have been doing: • We have been sharing information at the Farmer’s Market. • Vacation Bible School is reaching over 100 children from the community. • Outreach through the newspaper, posters, pamphlets, and displays • Friendly greeters at every service • Welcoming and user friendly website • Sponsors for new members • Contacting visitors • Putting together our pictorial of members

Question: Do you feel as though you are being led to help with evangelism? Do you want to help us spread the Good News of salvation with the lost? Are you concerned with the large amount of unchurched people?

There are many ways you can help. If you have a gift to share, please prayerfully consider it. Are you good at computers, public relations, marketing, writing press releases, talking to people, organizing events, working with the chamber of commerce, being a face and voice in the community for St. Paul’s? Note: the budget passed by the congregation projected a $72,000 shortfall. The intent was that congregational growth would potentially reduce the shortfall this FY, and certainly improve over time, given the recent strong growth at St Paul’s.

There are four major income sources to the congregation.

According to plan, the financial impact of the Kinder PlaceKinder PlaceKinder PlaceKinder Place mission at St Paul’s was expected to provide a $10,000 gain after the planned monthly donation. To date, Kinder Place is operating as planned.

All percentages noted below are related to St. Paul’s operations other than Kinder Place.

Accurate full year predictions are difficult this early in the fiscal year, but trends are encouraging.

At this time, expenses also seem to be tracking according to plan.

When will…?

Your Board of Church Properties has been working largely behind the scenes on several major

projects. After much effort to be the best stewards of the funds entrusted to us, the preparations are

complete and things are about to start moving!

The most asked question is "when will the wallpaper (and plaster) in the Narthex be repaired?"

The answer first takes us up to the roof! There is a certain order in our project plan to ensure these

significant repairs last for quite some time.

The roof must be repaired and sound before any other work is done inside the building, or all the effort

and expense will be wasted. So, the roof repairs are scheduled to begin the week of November 18,

weather permitting. By the time you have read this, you will have noticed a crane and other construc-

tion equipment near the school entrance. It will be used to move various large pieces of equipment

on the roof to allow the repairs to be completed. The work is expected to last 5 days.

Next will be the tuck pointing and masonry repairs on the bell towers and front façade of the Church.

The roof must not leak, hence why it must be repaired first, or the tuck-pointing and repairs will be

ruined from the inside out. We hope to complete this work yet this fall, but it is again contingent on

favorable weather.

Next are the louvers in the bell towers. All eight tower louver faces need to be replaced. But again the

tuck-pointing and masonry must be completed first. Construction of the new louvers (the “shutter-

looking panels” at the top of the tower) will occur offsite, and they will then be installed in early spring.

Once all of the above items are completed, we can finally repair the plaster and wallpaper.

Temporary repairs are in process to improve the appearance in the areas where the wallpaper is

peeling.

Also in process is replacing the windows on the north and west face of the original school building. The

existing windows are original to the building and in very poor condition aesthetically, operationally

and in terms of energy efficiency. The north windows are planned to be replaced over the Christmas

holidays, and the west classroom windows over Easter and spring vacation

By the time you read this, the new sound system should be completely installed, adjusted and

operational. It is truly a very complicated process as settings are confirmed and operator training is

completed. The black speakers at the front of the church will be painted to better blend in. Also, the

various wires, cables, stands and equipment will be "neatened up" and minimalized as much as

possible. As a side note, we need an operator for the system for every service. Contact one of our

Board members or one of the Elders if you are interested in assisting in this important task. A special

thank you to Larry Hansen and Trent Heinzel who have been instrumental in completing this project.

Our Time to Grow Winter Session of classes will begin on Wednesday, January 8th

It’s extremely important to sign up for the adult Bible studies by the deadline. Books and study

guides will need to be ordered. If you do not sign up by the deadline, you will not have a book

and/or study guide.

Every Christian can benefit from continued study in God’s Word. Time to Grow is our offering of classes

on Wednesday nights for the whole family. Through Bible study, the Holy Spirit works to build up our

faith as we continue to grow and understand God’s Holy Word. We have a meal available in the

Fellowship Hall starting at 5:00 pm and it’s served until 6:00 pm. The cost for adults is $4.00, children

ages 5-12 are $3.00 and children 4 and under are free. At 6:00 pm we gather in the church for a time of

devotion and singing before we are dismissed to our classes at 6:20 pm. The children then go to their

own age-appropriate classrooms. The adults have a variety of classes they can choose from at the same

time. Our evening ends at 7:20 pm. There is a nursery available for children under 3.

We are excited to continue with our child, youth and adult Bible study called Answers in Genesis. It

provides answers to the issues that confront today’s culture through the media, school, friends, etc. It

also provides a thorough understanding of the authority and primary teachings of Scripture. All ages will

be equipped to defend the Bible, and become conformed to the image of Christ, as they apply God’s

Word in their everyday lives.
