The season of Advent brings to us a rare opportunity: WAITING. As a child, I remember getting catalogs in the mail. Occasionally, my mom would order something on my behalf. We had to mail the form in with payment and wait weeks for it to be processed and sent. Now, I regularly order items from Amazon and get them within 3 days. My ability to wait grows smaller everyday. The season of Advent brings to us a

rare opportunity: WAITING.

As a child, I remember getting catalogs in the

mail. Occasionally, my mom would order

something on my behalf. We had to mail the

form in with payment and wait weeks for it to

be processed and sent. Now, I regularly order

items from Amazon and get them within 3

days. My ability to wait grows smaller everyday.

In college, as the internet grew and became

the go to place for information, it was common

to ask a question and get the answer in a

matter of minutes with those dial-up modems.

Today, I can usually find it in 10-15 seconds with

a simple search on my phone. My ability to

wait grows smaller everyday.

There are far too few opportunities in life to

learn this important skill: waiting. A once normal

element of life has gone away in a world with

24 hour stores and lightening fast internet con-

nections.

Advent and Christmas are a holy time, prepar-

ing for the coming of Jesus. We rightly focus on

the celebration of Jesus’ birth, on Mary and

Joseph, and remembering the first Christmas so

long ago. Jesus brings to us great joy and life

filled with God’s love. The power of God is not

limited to the moments we celebrate

Christmas. The time of Advent brings us

opportunity to see God as well. We learn how

to wait. We learn how to wait for what we

already know is coming.

It’s easy to jump straight to Christmas. Waiting

during Advent allows us to focus on the bless-

ings of paying attention to what is before us

in the moment. God is already doing work in

our lives and we wait to see the next moment

of that evidence. It’s not only in the manger

we find God’s work in our lives. It is there be-

fore us everyday, waiting for us to notice.

As you look at the Advent image, you can

see the shadow of the manger. We know Je-

sus is coming. May we wait and see through

the stable to know the work of God on each

day between now and Christmas.

Poinsettia Order Forms

Available

We each have an opportunity to bring

beauty into our sanctuary this Advent with

the purchase of a poinsettia. They are $10

each and you may purchase one in honor

or memory of someone in your life.

Please include a check with the order

form and place it in the offering plate.

Make checks to Bethany Christian Church

and note Poinsettia on the check.

Orders are to be turned in to Judy Krase.

Order forms will be in the

Sunday Bulletin.

Have you borrowed Items from

the church?

Sometimes things have a way of leaving the

building. At this time If there is ever an item

you need to use, please sign the item out on

the yellow clipboard. There is one in the li-

brary, kitchen, and on the church office desk.

Upon return of the item, please sign the item

back in. This is one way to know where an

item is if the church needs it for a function.

Thank you!

GIVE THE GIFT

OF MUSIC

The Rosemary Bowers Huff Music Scholar-

ship Fund was started in 2006 in her loving

memory by the children and grandchil-

dren of Rosemary Bowers Huff, who

passed away in 2005.

Rosemary was former Music Director and

Elder at Bethany Christian Church, Tulsa,

Oklahoma, and wife of Minister Emeritus

Howard F. Huff. She also taught private

piano and voice lessons from her home

studio through 2005.

The scholarship fund provides grants,

through auditions, to incoming freshmen

college students, to continue their voice

or piano studies in college. The scholar-

ship fund and auditions are under the di-

rection of the Tulsa Accredited Music

Teachers Association, a non-profit, 501(c)

(3), educational organization where Rose-

mary was a member and served in lead-

ership roles.

Your tax-deductible donation in her mem-

ory may be sent to: The Rosemary Bowers

Huff Music Scholarship Fund/TAMTA, c/o
