A reading from the second Book of Samuel

When King David was settled in his palace, and the LORD had given him rest from his enemies on every side, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God dwells in a tent!” Nathan answered the king, “Go, do whatever you have in mind, for the LORD is with you.” But that night the LORD spoke to Nathan and said: “Go, tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD: Should you build me a house to dwell in?’“ "'It was I who took you from the pasture and from the care of the flock to be commander of my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you went, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. And I will make you famous like the great ones of the earth. I will fix a place for my people Israel; I will plant them so that they may dwell in their place without further disturbance. Neither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old, since the time I first appointed judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest

from all your enemies. The LORD also reveals to you that he will establish a house for you. And when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his kingdom firm. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before me; your throne shall stand firm forever.'” The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

First Reading 2 Samuel 7: 1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

R. (2a) For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

The promises of the LORD I will sing forever;

through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness.

For you have said, “My kindness is established forever”;

in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness.

R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

“I have made a covenant with my chosen one,

I have sworn to David my servant:

Forever will I confirm your posterity

and establish your throne for all generations.”

R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

“He shall say of me, ‘You are my father,

my God, the Rock, my savior.’

Forever I will maintain my kindness toward him,

and my covenant with him stands firm.”

R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans

Brothers and sisters: To him who can strengthen you,

according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation

of the mystery kept secret for long ages but now manifested through the prophetic

writings and, according to the command of the eternal God, made known to

all nations to bring about the obedience of faith, to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ

be glory forever and ever. Amen.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Second Reading Romans 16: 25-27

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke Glory to you, O Lord. The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a

man?” And the angel said to her in reply, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God.” Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Gospel Reading Luke 1: 26-38

R. Alleluia, alleluia. Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.

May it be done to me according to your word. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

PARISH NEWS

Church Support WEEK OF DECEMBER 13, 2020 WEEKLY COLLECTION………………………………..…$ 19,732.00 Thank you to all who support our parish each week!

Pro-Life Ministry

Alpha at St. Angela The next Alpha course begins January 20, 2021. Registration is now open! Visit stangela.org to sign up or call Diane at the parish office, 504-835-0324 ext.306. Due to social distancing guidelines there will be a 45 guest limit. Don’t wait, sign up today!

Pro-Life Meditations on the “Joyful Mysteries” of the Rosary. THE NATIVITY: God Himself was born as a child. The greatness of a person does not depend on size, for the newborn King is very small. Let us pray for an end to prejudice against the tiny babies threatened by abortion. St. Angela Pro-Life Ministry wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Parish Christmas Caroling Come join us on tonight, December 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the school yard for our annual Parish Christmas Caroling. Bring your own chair and sit as a family. Due to Covid restrictions social distancing will be observed and masks will be required. St. Augustine…”He who sings prays twice”

Dear St. Angela Merici Parishioners, As we end this very unusual year of 2020, I would like to thank you for the support of our Knights of Columbus Council, Bishop L. Abel Caillouet 9007. Even with the restrictions of Covid, we managed to have three successful fundraisers this year; Pig Skin Party, Smoked Chicken dinner and Mandarin Chicken dinner. The last two were takeout only, but through your generosity we brought the community out to support the parish and raise money. Our dues and donations are our only other means of revenue. Listed below are the many accomplishments the Knights achieved during 2020: Financial support was given to two seminarians; supported the “Keep Christ in Christmas” billboard sign; sponsored a Donut Sunday; purchased a sponsorship for the “Great Serve Gala”, which was postponed; purchased “Guide to Confession” pamphlets for the tables in Church; purchased American Flags for the school and had lights installed to light the American flag - which has never been lit up at night; had lights and electricity installed to light up the new Sacred Heart of Jesus statue; supplied the hay used for the nativity scene for Christmas; supplied Jambalaya for the New Women’s Life Center’s “Born to Run” in March; directed and parked cars in the parking lot for outside Adoration; set up and took down the stage for outside Masses during the stay-at-home mandate; when Church opened up to limited capacity, the Knights ushered Mass by counting parishioners entering church; hosted a 6th grade “Rams Write” essay contest for school, with awards given to the top four students; hosted the Knights Free Throw contest in January; and most recently gave $2,000.00 to Fr. Beau for #IGive Catholic Tuesday, to purchase and install video equipment and security cameras in the church. Again, thank you for your support and lets all plan on a new and exciting 2021! Grand Knight, Jay T. Schwander

Thank You from the KC’s

You will accomplish more by kind words and a courteous manner than by anger or sharp rebuke, which should never be used except in necessity. St. Angela Merici

The Prayer to Saint Michael

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. (*)denotes living

Pope Francis December Prayer Intention

For a Life of Prayer

We pray that our personal relationship with Jesus Christ be nourished by the Word of God and

a life of prayer.

Family Prayer Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our Archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family.

“As We Wait in Joyful Hope”, our Advent Mission with Mike Patin was a great success. Over the course of the four days that Mike spent with us he was able to impact many parishioners and visitors. After speaking at all the Masses over the weekend, he spoke with our CYO Teens on Sunday night. During the day, on Monday and Tuesday, he offered a special reflection for our parish staff and another for our sixth and seventh graders. On both Monday and Tuesday night, we had a great turnout in church as well as people joining our livestream. The evening presentations were recorded so if you missed the mission you can view it at your convenience on St. Angela’s Facebook or You Tube pages.

Attendance of Mass for Sunday obligation will have to be met within one’s respective parish. To register, please contact the parish office, 504-835-0324 before January 15, 2021.

SILVER WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

"Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." (Luke 1:38) Our Advent journey is almost complete! It is fitting that we would be reminded of the Annunciation and Mary's "yes" on this Fourth and final Sunday of Advent. How have you used this Advent season to be open to say "yes" to God's will for you?
