Rumors of this plan have circulated in the industry for years but the vinyl hit the turntable in 1 986, when a plethora of aging rockers created a logjam on the music charts. Add to this the consumer electronics industry's preference for the low-overhead high-profit margin of remarketed and repackaged catalogue items on new formats (i.e. CD and video) and you start to understand why we are in the grips of a geriatric rock chart-Iock.
