December 1st marks the end of our first trimester. This means that our first 12 weeks of school is in the books! I hope that your students are happy with how they performed in the first trimester of this school year. If he or she is not happy then the start of the new trimester is a good time to change habits, attitudes, or simply vow to apply oneself a little more. I hope that our students get off to a good start in the second trimester.
As many of you know, good reading skills are critical to all of our success. Our students have an opportunity to work on their reading skills here at Boyne Falls each and every day. Their teachers challenge them to meet their accelerated reader goals during each trimester. For the first trimester, Mrs. Fenske offered some extra motivation by tempting our students with a trip to the movies to view the newly released film Wonder. This extra incentive appears to be enough to propel our students to reach or surpass their goals. At the final tally, 80% of our students reached their goal! Congratulations to all of you and enjoy your hard earned reward!
To all of our parents, we invite you to come celebrate all of our students’ successes from the first trimester during our honors/awards assembly being held on Wednesday, December 13th at 10:00 A.M. This is typically a fairly short assembly so if you can get away from your work then we hope you will join us.
Just a few accolades to pass along to our students and staff. During the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, our Student Council held a food drive which directly benefited our local Boyne Valley Food Pantry. Our students, teachers, and staff responded well to this drive so I want to thank everyone for doing your part. In addition, our kindergarten to 7th grade students are helping out the Make A Wish foundation by submitting letters to Santa. During the Christmas season, Macy’s department store donates $1 for every “Dear Santa” letter dropped off at their department stores. Kudos to our students for doing their part in help-ing Make A Wish reach its $1 million goal.
On behalf of the students, teachers, and staff here at Boyne Falls Public School, we wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year! Enjoy a safe holiday break.

roasting. First grade learned about "eating the rainbow" and tasted a rainbow smoothie. Fourth grade
learned about composting with worms, and fifth grade practiced their chef skills to create and prepare
their own salsa recipes!

Food Corps service member Miss Lindsay shared infor-
mation with fourth grade students about red worms and
how they are composters, eating our leftover food scraps
from the lunch room and turning it into healthy
soil. Students used microscopes and hand lenses to ob-

Parents, please remind your child(ren) to dress appropriately for the cold while skiing. This means wearing proper layers, gloves, hats, coats, and ski pants.
