There is something very special about the birth experience that brings with it a feeling of joy and hope. But this feeling is not simply limited to the birth of a child, for there is a sense of hope and expectation that accompanies any birth; whether it is the birth of a child, an idea or even the birth of a nation. As we continue to celebrate the season of the Advent here at Sligo, we do so with the understanding and amazement of the incredible duality that we find in the birth of Jesus. We light this candle as a sign of the coming light of Christ, coming again to reign in glory. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice!Keep awake, therefore, and be ready.

The Lord is coming at an unexpected hour. The kingdom of heaven has come near.Go and tell what you have seen and heard:The virgin will conceive and bear a son,And they shall name him Emmanuel, God with us.

Prepare the way of the Lord!
