December 12, 2019 A Note From the Principal: Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): I want to take a couple of minutes to brag about my staff. This year, we have engaged in professional learning communities. These are weekly meetings with the purpose of focusing on student learning. Often, we think about a teacher’s primary role being that of instruction...and it is. However, in our meetings the small shift of focusing on learning rather than just teaching is huge. Grade level teachers meet to focus on the state standards, making sure we are very clear about what they require students to know and be able to do, and then look at ways of measuring students’ learning. The discussion in these meetings has been powerful. We are already seeing tremendous growth around student learning because of the intentional focus on the most impactful standards, the skills needed for students to be successful, and careful monitoring/intervention. PLCs were new to us this year. I am so proud of the way my staff has responded to this process. I brag about them as often as I can and share with others in the district what success we are having here at Forest Creek. I am truly a Proud Principal. Approaching the Winter Break: Looking forward on my calendar, I realize that we all get really busy preparing for the upcoming Winter Break. School is no different. We are filling our schedules to the max to get everything done before we leave. It makes me stop and be reminded of the need to really take in every moment of joy from the students and let that be the focus. This is a special time of year for kids. I get my joy and energy from watching them, listening to their stories and excitement, and just living each moment fully. I can say without hesitation that I am blessed to have such a wonderful job and the privilege of working with children and families. I hope each of you is taking time to slow down and enjoy the wonders of the season through the eyes of your children. Thank you for allowing us to have them each day, and for the wonders we get to experience on a daily basis here at school.

Mentors are already having a positive effect on our students. They are truly valued and adored. We currently have 3 students who desire to have a mentor at this time. PTA NEWS!

Calling all Forest Creek families! We are needing your assistance to continue to help make our Talent Show a successful one! We are looking for your child's group, sport, extra curricular activity, organization, etc to assist in selling concessions during the Talent Show. A local cheer group provided help last year and sold pizza, chips, soda, etc and it worked out wonderfully for the cheer group and our school! All sales proceeds will go to you child's group/organization and would be considered fundraising for your child and or children. You will need to arrive the at the school by 5pm February 7th, 2020. You will also need to help with clean up of any of the concession items after the event ends around 8:30pm. We are looking for two groups this year! If you are interested, please contact Liz Levett at [email protected]. The PTA will hold a drawing if there are several entries in January and you will be contacted if you have been chosen. Please email Liz Levett with any questions. Thank you!!!!
