A Welcome from the President

Welcome back to another exciting year of Kootenay ICE Hockey. The start of every hockey season always brings optimism and hope and the 2014-2015 campaign will be no different. Despite the turnover and cyclical nature of Major Junior Hockey our organization expects to make the playoffs every year.

Thanks in part to the quality scouting and coaching we have made the playoffs all 16 years we have been in Cranbrook, while finishing with a .500 or better record for a WHL record 15 consecutive seasons (both are the longest active streaks in the WHL).

Our organization has been very fortunate since moving to Cranbrook to enjoy an unparalleled amount of on ice success. With the core group of our players in the 19 and 20-year-old age groups, we expect them along with our new prospects to once again battle for contention in the very competitive Eastern Conference.

Our fans have come to expect a team that is hard working on the ice and ambassadors for Cranbrook and the entire East Kootenay region off the ice.

TONIGHT’S OPPONENTLAST OUTING: Tonight marks the sixth game of a seven-game road swing for Prince Albert, and the Raiders come to Cran-brook having been shut out in each of their last three outings. Cranbrook native Payton Lee made 29 saves to record the shutout Wednesday night as Prince Albert fell 3-0 in Vancouver versus the Giants. Following the game, the Raiders traded captain, and Winnipeg Jets first-rounder Josh Morrissey to the Kelowna Rockets as part of a four-player deal. Prince Albert received defenseman Jesse Lees and forward Austin Glover from the Rockets in exchange for Morrissey and forward Gage Quinney.

LAST MEETING: Tonight marks the third of four meetings this season between the Raiders and Kootenay ICE, with Prince Albert having won both of the prior encounters this year. The last meeting between the two sides ended 5-0 in favour of the Raiders October 28 at Western Financial Place. Morrissey led all skaters with a goal and two assists, while Nick McBride made 29 saves to record the shutout for Prince Albert.
