Here's a *T*I*P* From the end o the second quarter 2011 to theend o the irst quarter 2015 the Gross DomesticProduct in the United States has gone up about 14percent. However, ederal government debt has goneup almost double, 26 percent, says Karl Denninger oMarket-icker.org. “During that time rame the Republicans had beenin control o the U.S. House o Representatives, whichcontrols all ederal spending,” he wrote. “Not onlyhave the Republicans not cut any spending they’veexpanded it twice the rate o economic output.” In other words let’s not be hearing about theRepublican Party—on a ederal level, mind you—being the party o iscal restraint, especially in thenow-underway race or the U.S. Presidency, becauseit just isn’t so anymore. — “Things, Ideas & People...Daniels County Leader

Te final results are in at Montana Fish, Wildlie &Parks Havre check station or the 2015 hunting season.Te check station was open rom Oct. 10 (the open ogeneral antelope) through Nov. 29 (the end o the biggame season). In general, both hunter numbers and big-game harvest increased rom last year.
Hunter numbers were up 12% rom 2014, but are stilldown 18% rom long-term average. “Weather conditionsthis year were mostly warm and dry, which may havehelped increase hunter participation rom last year,” saidHavre-area biologist Scott Hemmer, who manages thecheck station.
In addition, hunter success and hunter satisactionseems to be on the upswing. “We talked to a lot o huntersthat were pleased with seeing more game, especially sincethe winter o 2010-2011 and past epizootic hemorrhagicdisease (EHD) outbreaks,” noted Hemmer, “and hunter
harvest was in line with that.” Te antelope harvest o 77 animals was an increaseo 15% rom 2014, but is still 76% below the long-termaverage. Te reduction in the long-term average is mainlydue to ewer licenses available. “Antelope populationsare still recovering rom the harsh winter o 2011,” saidHemmer, “and in response, antelope license quotas havebeen kept at reduced levels until numbers increase.”
Mule deer harvest increased o 62% rom lastyear, with 341 mule deer harvested. Tis increase wascorroborated by reports rom hunters o substantiallybetter mule deer numbers. “Overall mule deer harvestwas still 30% below the long-term average, but this ismostly due to the absence o “B” licenses and lower muledeer doe harvest,” noted Hemmer. Mule deer buckharvest was only 5% below the long-term average.
White-tailed deer harvest was up 33% rom 2014,with 56 deer harvested, but was still 68% below the long-term average. Similar to mule deer, a majority o the dropin white-tailed deer harvest has been the result o lowerantlerless harvest resulting rom the absence o white-
Final Havre-Area Check Station Data Tabulatedtailed doe tags. However, white-tailed buck harvest isstill down 46% rom the long-term average. “Huntersreported seeing increasing white-tailed deer numbersthis year, but numbers did not appear to be back to pre-EHD levels in most areas,” said Hemmer.Elk harvest at the check station was up early in the season
but slowed toward the end, with a total o 35 elk overallHarvest was comparable to past years, being up 17% romlast year, and 13% below the long-term average.
Upland bird harvest was strong this year. “Birdhunters reported above average numbers o sharp-tailedgrouse and pheasant in the eastern part o Region 6while hunter reports in the western part o the regionwere generally o more average numbers,” said HemmerHungarian partridge reports, particularly in the westernpart o the region, were excellent.
Pheasant harvest (753 birds) was down 4% rom last
year and 14% below the long-term average. Sharp-tailedgrouse harvest (186 birds) was up 6% rom last year and38% above the long-term average. Hungarian partridgeharvest (131 birds) was up 87% rom last year and 129%above the long-term average.

Did you hear about the new game fish the NorthDakota Fish & Game Department is trying to breed? Tey took a Coho and crossed it with a Walleye.Tey called it a Kowal. It had great taste, and ought likehell, but it was too small. So they crossed the Kowal with a Muskie, and calledit a Kowalski. It has the best o everything: it fights hard,it tastes great, and it grows up to 50 inches. Te only problem is they’re having trouble teachingit to swim.
