GROUNDWORK CASE STUDY
PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS
Over 1,000 Moston residents made aware of locally available financial support to help them improve the efficiency of their own homes
42 Green Doctor home visits carried out in Moston providing home owners with: a free energy survey; advice on behavioural changes they could make to save energy; and information about financial support available for installation of energy efficient measures
228 people engaged via community activities, including:
10 presentations to local groups
3 Green Doctor surgeries
A showing of the documentary film “Chasing Ice” at Moston Community Cinema

COMMUNITY
The project, run in 6 areas of England and Wales and on-line, aimed to test the impact of community engagement on uptake of products and services designed to encourage residents to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. In Manchester the project ran in Moston for 3 months in early 2013 A range of community engagement techniques were employed, ranging from one-to-one to one-to-many activities, to test the effectiveness of different techniques
The project also aimed to test the effectiveness of different messages in engaging people, for example messages around health, financial savings, environmental protection and so on

Organising and delivering a marketing campaign
Operating a Green Doctor helpline
Delivering inspirational talks to community groups to encourage individuals to take action and encourage their friends and neighbours to do so
Delivering Green Doctor surgeries at community venues
Door knocking to engage residents on a one-to-one basis
Running a Green Doctor service using the latest technology, allowing a “prescription” and referral information to be handed to the homeowner on site
NEXT STEPS
Groundwork MSSTT are looking for opportunities to roll out their Green Doctor service and welcome enquiries from potential partners, including housing associations, utility companies, Green Deal providers and any other organisation which feels this service would support their objectives
