Fueled by the country’s preparations for the 2022 World Cup, and supported by a high population increase (approximately 9.5%) and the government’s effort to achieve its Qatar Vision 2030, the outlook for construction in Qatar remains very promising and encouraging for the coming years. Jürgen Müller, FIFA’s Head of Planning, confirms that Qatar’s preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup are on track and the country’s groundbreaking legacy work is progressing well. Several construction contracts are still unsigned: 3 remaining stadiums are expected to be awarded in 2017 including the Lusail Stadium where the championship match of the 2022 World Cup will be played. In a bid to create world-class infrastructure, the Qatari government also announced various mega projects covering rail and road transport, hotel and tourism, urban development, as well as power, water, and social infrastructure. These projects, planned to be completed by 2022, are likely to sustain Qatar’s growth past the World Cup.
Presence in Project Qatar 2017 is thus essential for everyone aiming at seizing a share of Qatar’s arena of opportunities from construction to hospitality and infrastructure.
