• Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the 

darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Now nowhere in the creation account is the first day of the week of creation blessed, sanctified, or declared holy. Did any day of creation receive this kind of recognition 

from God?

• Gen 2:3 • And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

• In all of scripture, the seventh day of the week, the Sabbath, is the only day which has been declared by God Himself to be blessed, sanctified (set aside for a holy purpose), in memorial to His creation.

• We are again reminded to observe the seventh day Sabbath in the commandments given at Sinai:

Exo 20:8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:Exo 20:10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

• Exo 20:11 • For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

• The seventh day is declared to be a memorial to the creative power of God, which should be observed and kept holy because God Himself has blessed and hallowed the day.

• Mark 16:2 • And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

• Mark 16:9• Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

• Mark 16:14 • Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
