Volume 14, Issue 16 Friday, October 25, 2019 Dear School Family, Welcome to Term 4 and especially to our new families who will be joining us next year and will now be receiving the fortnightly newsletter. I trust the holiday break was a relaxing and refreshing break and for our Year 12 students that it was a very productive time. Our Year 12 students finish their formal lessons this week. The last Friday is a special day as we have a breakfast for all the Year 12 students and their families. Many thanks to Miss Annie Mott and the staff helpers, as well as 2020 elected Prefects who come and serve the outgoing class of 2019. The breakfast is followed by the Year 12 Final Assembly which is a wonderful time of celebration. It is filled with laughter and also some tears as we realise their time with us is coming to an end. Year 12s who have completed all of their work will then enjoy a final excursion to Flip Out. We are so thankful for Mrs Wolf and Mr Jeffree, our Year 11 and 12 Coordinators, for the effort they put in to planning a number of Year 12 events, particularly this week and the upcoming Formal! The Year 12 students will have a week of study leave before their externally set written SACE Examinations begin. The examinations are spread over 3 weeks. Not all Year 12 subjects have external examinations and as such some of our students who have completed all their work will now be finished until Presentation Night. Please pray for our Year 12 students throughout this time that they remain focused, be able to complete their work and study well in preparation for their examinations. The two final events for the Year 12 students will be the Year 12 Formal and Presentation Night. As the Year 12s finish it also gives the Year 11s the opportunity to step up and be the senior students in the life of the school. It will also be exciting to have the Year 11s lead us in Chapels for the remainder of the year. At the start of the holiday break it was great to be able to welcome home the team that were on the Missions Trip in Cambodia. I always have a great sense of relief when all our students are safely back. A reminder that our final night for the year is Presentation Night on Monday, 9 December. This is the highlight in the life of the school and it is an expectation that all students attend. It is held in the week after the middle school examinations. New families joining us in 2020 are also very welcome to join us for our Presentation Night. I find this time of year quite exciting as we look towards 2020 and all it will bring. It can be sad when we hear of staff who are planning to move on, but we are so proud of Mr Daniel Nowak, our Assistant Principal Human Resources, who has won a position at Influencers Church in Atlanta, USA. Daniel will be taking on the role of Director of Training and Education for Church Health and Director of Influencers College. We pray God’s blessing on Daniel, his wife Natalie and their four children as they prepare for this new chapter. Please continue to pray for our school community, staffing plans for 2020 and the East Building extension project, due for completion by Term 2 of next year. We also have some renovations planned for the current Student Learning Hub and adjoining classrooms, in order to afford us more flexibility in the way we use our facilities. AN EVENING AT THE OSCARS 2019 On Thursday 26th September, we launched our inaugural, ‘An Evening At the Oscars’. This will be an annual event cele-

brating achievements in the Performing Arts. We celebrated the evening with a live feed to screens using a cameraman, a

paparazzi photographer, performances from the Year 11 band, Theatre Connections, and food from the Food and Hospi-

tality team. The evening was led by an MC (Master of Ceremonies), and we had a guest artist who performed and handed

out the awards.

Parents and friends joined the invited nominees, as we celebrated with awards for Best Actor, Best Script-writer, Best

Composer, Best Film Score, Best Documentary, Overall Film Composer’s Award, Best Songwriter’s Award, and Most Ac-

complished Musician. We also launched our Actors and Musicians Guild. Life-time entry into the Guild is given to a maxi-

mum of 2 students per year who have consistently demonstrated commitment to the most co-curricular performing arts

activities, and other performances as they arise.

It was a wonderful evening celebrating our talented students and

honouring them and their creativity. I think the photographs speak

for themselves!

Please see our Facebook page for more photos from the night.

Earn and Learn Rewards

Our school community once again participated in the Woolworth’s Earn and Learn program this year and our rewards have

arrived! Thank you to all the families that donated stickers to the school, it was very exciting unpacking our delivery.

Through your contributions, we have added good quality headphones to our Listening Wall in the Learning Hub. Students

are able to access curated podcasts and audio books to enhance their learning. We have also replenished our supply of

games which are always popular each lunch time, and have received a wide range of stationery. Some of this we will be

donating to charity, while the rest will be loaned out to students for projects and class work. Thank you to Woolworths and

Modern Teaching Aids for running the program for schools. Mrs Halford.

Cambodia Trip 2019 It was a privilege taking a group of 21 year 10 and 11 students on the annual Cambodia Missions trip.

“So what do you actually do when you are in Cambodia?” is a question that I am often asked. The answer is one of taking

a group of comparatively rich and privileged students from Adelaide, and giving them an eye-opening cultural immersion in

a place where poverty and injustice is common and brutal. In doing this we spend time with many wonderful organizations

and people that have seen the plight of the poor and vulnerable and are working to bring hope and life to them. Our team

embraced the experience whole-heartedly and really were a wonderful group to travel with.

We spent time serving and volunteering wherever we could within the various schools and education centres that we

visited, but inevitably we all learned and gained so much more from the kids and people we worked with, than we could

ever give.

As a group we also spent time thinking and praying how God views injustice and inequality in his creation, and how our

faith compels us to do our part in making the world more how God intended it to be.

Thanks goes to the Temple Community for supporting the trip so generously, as we were able to provide resources and

donate quite large amounts of fundraising money to very important ministries that are working with poor and vulnerable

kids and communities.

Of course we had a lot of fun as well. Thanks again for your support.
