Light Academy therefore started providing some reading materials and recorded lessons to our students from our teachers on our different digital platforms including Facebook and, on our E-Light website. This was all aimed at keeping our students engaged at home with some productive academic work as we wait for when they would come back to school. This was quite good however new measures were put up to: a. Improve follow up and feedback system since there was a gap between the teachers and the students. b. Improve teacher-student interaction which in fact accounts for effective teaching and learning. c. Improve on the assessment strategy since the former couldn’t provide an alternative for teachers to give assignments and tests as well as students turning back their work. Due to all these factors and accompanied by the fact that schools will remain closed indefinitely, the school administration came up with a more efficient online learning system in a bid to keep our students academically active. Why E-Learning? a) During this COVID 19 era which is likely to stay with us for some time. Online learning is enabling and empowering kids to stay safe as well as keep up with their studies and the earlier we embrace this the better. b) During this era when students are separated from school, learning must never be stopped and therefore E-learning provides an opportunity to keep students fully engaged with their academics. This enables them to be fully focused on academics. c) COVID19 has adversely affected students both emotionally and psychologically as regards to the way forward with their education. So, E- learning keeps students in an academic and positive mood as we wait for the schools to be re-opened. d) Online learning is the best way to challenge the continuing threat of the coronavirus. With an increasing number of schools shutting down, students can continue to learn and evolve during this global pandemic (which is growing exponentially). In line with the above subject, the school started providing online lessons to the students via Zoom and Google classroom.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

RE: UPDATE ABOUT ONLINE LEARNING

I greet you all in the name of the almighty God. Light Academy Secondary School highly appreciates your continued support and cooperation towards the institution even during these trying and challenging times of COVID19.

I WISH TO BRING THE FOLLOWING TO YOUR ATTENTION.

Schools were officially closed on the Friday, 20th March, 2020 following the presidential directive in order to curb the spread of COVID19. In response to this, Light Academy has always been committed to ensure the continuity of learning.

Light Academy therefore started providing some reading materials and recorded lessons to our students from our teachers on our different digital platforms including Facebook and, on our E-Light website. This was all aimed at keeping our students engaged at home with some productive academic work as we wait for when they would come back to school. This was quite good however new measures were put up to:

Online learning

is enabling and empowering kids to stay safe as well as keep up with their studies and the earlier we embrace this the better.

b) During this era when students are separated from school, learning must never be stopped and therefore E-learning provides an opportunity to keep students fully engaged with their academics.

Therefore, in conclusion Online learning is a powerful recourse and is a beacon of hope as we get into murky waters of the "Corona scare." In line with the above subject, the school started providing online lessons to the students via Zoom and Google classroom.

Why Zoom and Google classroom? 1. Both Zoom and Google classroom provide exposure to an online learning platform which

is actually the way to go in this COVID19 era. 2. Google classroom and Zoom facilitate paperless communication between teachers and

students which enhances effective teaching and learning. 3. Google classroom provides an easy, user-friendly format for students and teachers. It

allows teachers to upload reading materials, quizzes, assignments and exams. 4. Zoom provides a platform for a live class since teachers can interact with the students.

This helps students to get fast hand information from the teachers and also an opportunity for students to ask their teachers for help when needed.

5. Google classroom provides an opportunity for teachers to give assignments and exams to students and at the same time allows students to do the given assignments and exams and then turn back for assessment.

In line with the above subject, the school started providing online lessons to the students on Monday, 15th June, 2020 via Zoom and Google classroom. The students are engaged from Monday to Friday with six lessons per day making a total of thirty lessons per week and in all subjects including guidance meetings with their class teachers. In addition to that students are given assignments which are meant to further keep them focused and busy in the absence of the teachers.

Additionally, on Saturday, 11th July, 2020, we held a parents’ meeting online via Zoom. This was intended to update our parents in detail about what we are doing and also get feedback from our dear parents about the ongoing school programs as regards the continuity of learning.

As of Friday, 10th July, 2020 we are having a holiday of one week. Thereafter we shall then resume on Monday, 20th July, 2020 for the online classes.

Also Attached is the provisional online academic calendar from the school.

NB: This is a provisional academic calendar from the school. If the Ministry of Education and Sports comes up with a new school academic calendar, then we shall follow that with immediate effect. Once again, we look forward for your usual cooperation as we continue to engage our students from home.
