PRP AND PHLEBOTOMYLecture and Hand-on Workshop

Friday, September 9, 2014 8:30am - 1:00pm

To a great extent PRP and phlebotomy are two sides of the same coin. Clinicians cannot perform PRP without safely extracting a patients’ blood in the first place.

But what is phlebotomy and PRP? Phlebotomy, alternatively known as venipuncture, is the art and science of extracting a patient’s blood with a syringe. But it is also learning about the patient’s circulatory system and possessing a basic understanding of arteries and veins and which veins to select for proper phlebotomy.

Platelet-Rich Plasma represents the cutting-edge of dental science. It is the process by which a patient’s own blood is extracted and separated into its constituent parts. Platelets are the blood cells that help stop bleeding and promote tissue growth. Re-injecting a high concentration of a patient’s own platelets (generally 5-7 times above baseline levels) into a wound site aids in the healing process. Best of all, because the platelet-rich plasma is coming from the patient’s own body, there is no risk of rejection. In other words, this is as natural as natural gets.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

• Discuss phlebotomy in relation to the healthcare setting; demonstrating skills and knowledge necessary to perform phlebotomy along with infection control

• Identify the anatomic structure and function of body systems related to phlebotomy; recognizing supplies and equipment

• Practice accepted procedures of transporting and collecting blood specimens • Review PRP therapy and its growing acceptance in dentistry; identifying tools and

centrifuge equipment• Learn how to separate platelet-rich and platelet-poor blood

WORKSHOP:• Practice drawing blood on fellow course participants (optional)• Practice drawing blood on mannequin

BONE RING TECHNIQUE COURSELecture and Hand-on Workshop

Friday, September 9, 2014 8:30am - 3:00pm

In many cases, patients present with insufficient bone due to years of resorption. In these cases the patient’s alveolar ridge has lost both height and width.

Restoring a patient’s bone has traditionally meant a multi-month process of bone build-up and follow-up procedures. Although success rates have reached 95% patients crave faster treatment times and clinicians are eager to treat more patients, increasing their revenue. Encouragingly, the Bone Donut Technique, is turning these dreams into reality.

Taught by Dr. Ezio Gheno, MD, DDS a dental implantology and oral surgical expert from Varese, Italy and recent author of several bone regeneration and Bone Ring technique papers, the course is designed to radically transform how you graft implants, giving you the skills you need and the confidence you require to get the job done right faster than ever before.
