PLANT - TO - ENTERPRISE2007 European Conference

Dear Friends of MESA:Welcome to MESA International’s 2007 European Plant-To-Enterprise Conference in Utrecht, Netherlands. The pace of change in the manufacturing industry has increased dramatically. We are witnessing a market evolution that is changing most companies’ view of their plant production capabilities. Enterprises need to execute on innovation, which demands better operational visibility - and visibility is predicated on sharing information. While there have been significant investments made at the automation and enterprise layers over the past couple of decades - many organizations still have a real gap around the information and processes associated with the actual production operations. If you can’t easily collaborate around and share such information in real-time, you are going to find yourself at a competitive disadvantage in today’s globalized economy. A connected enterprise can react more quickly, consistently, and efficiently when change is needed.

There is a direct link between how integrated you are, and how fast and efficiently you can translate innovative concepts into new business or production processes. Good integration makes it easier to create that waterfall effect you want for converting new product designs into manufacturing capability, or for instance - implementing manufacturing processes that support mass customization goals. A connected enterprise experiences fewer of the time and effort barriers that might otherwise hinder your ability to execute on innovation.

Our first European P2E Conference focuses on the link between these important aspects of today’s manufacturing enterprise. You’ll find a unique combination of real-life insights, best practices, and thought leadership with case-study presentations and interactive educational workshops on the business and technical aspects of the connected enterprise. We have some insightful presentations this year; for example on Wednesday Chris Versteegh will provide insight into how Heineken is taking the next step forward in their evolution by integrating systems across every technology layer to synchronize their plant and enterprise operations. In addition, industry panels on both days will offer current and relevant insight on how some of the biggest names in manufacturing are dealing with their own manufacturing IT strategies and that will impact both business results and innovation in their companies.

I am very pleased to report that our association is as strong as it has been in years - thanks to the dedication of our terrific Board of Directors, both International and European, and the ongoing support that you, our members and guests, have provided throughout the year. I want to personally thank everyone who has contributed to our conference efforts - the MESA European Conference Committee, our management team at KCA, the team at VNU Exhibitions and my counterparts at Siemens, GE Fanuc, SAP, IBM, Wonderware, Microsoft, and MPDV, who continue to support this organization as Keystone Sponsors. I also want to thank our premier conference sponsor, LogicaCMG, for their efforts. Most of all, I want to thank all of our members and guests who have traveled here to be a part of this special event. Thanks to everyone - have a great Conference!

Best regards,

Wednesday, 11/709:45 – 10:30MES: The Bow & Arrow or the Indian? Chris Versteegh, Engineering Policy Manager – Group Supply Chain Policy, Heineken International

Heineken has experiences with MES since 1990. At that moment the first MES (in-house development) application was designed and implemented in Singapore. Since then the application of MES spread to 10 production sites. In two cases the projects included the implementation of a Warehouse Management System (standard product) as well.

One of the major issues during this period was to align the organization with the possibilities and opportunities MES offers including the integration across the four ISA 95 layers. Often this was one step too far due to a lack of understanding.

This presentation deals with the NEXT step forward, whereby the connection is made by the organization towards the possibilities and opportunities MES systems offer.

11:00 – 11:45Manufacturing Business Trends and the Impact of ITModerator: Tijnis Verhoeff, Director, LogicaCMG

The main results and conclusions from the survey performed by LogicaCMG will be presented. The survey has been focusing on large productioncompanies. The subjects will be:

Manufacturing business trends and the changing • requirements for production environments Impact of production automation developments • on the business

Difficulties to be expected on the route through • the software lifecycle (IST to Soll)

Three different cases will be discussed in detail.

11:45 – 12:30From Push to Pull: How to get Involvement from Business/Operational Management for Improvement by using MESMichel de Lepper, Manager, DSM - GlobalManufacturing Competence Center

Quite often, people have excellent ideas about improving business. Only too often, it appears not to be possible to execute their plans and make it a success. One way or another, not all people, who are involved, are supporting the improvement activities. Some may not be capable to do so; others seem not to be willing. One of the major challenges of creating improvements is to get support for it from all the people involved. This not limited to the business and operational management, as the title of this presentation suggests. Michel de Lepper will share his experience in dealing with this human factor in improvement processes in an industrial environment as an introduction to an interactive discussion with you. Basically, this presentation is about being right but not getting your way, at least not immediately!

PLANT - TO - ENTERPRISE2007 European Conference

Wednesday, 11/714:00 – 14:45 (BPM, PDM, PLM Track) MES, Product and Process Definition Valentijn de Leeuw, Senior Consultant,ARC Advisory Group

The integration of operations with enterprise processes and the applications used in these domains, such as MES, SCM, ERP, CMMS, and LIMS have received a lot of attention, and the existence of the standard ISA-95 for the process industries is an indication for it. In the discrete industries, applications to optimize the capture and management of design data are designated by Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). The bulk of the effort in the innovation process is related to products. In the process industries, the products remain largely stable over longer periods. The bulk of the innovation effort is oriented to the process, rather than the product. Today, the integration of PLM with MES in the discrete industry is going to be taken to the next level by the large automation providers.

This presentation discusses the challenges in integration between Innovation, Corporate administration and Manufacturing, from an informational, business process and organizational behavior point of view, and gives suggestions for change management, product and integration development approaches to lay a sound foundation and transform these concepts into real benefits.

14:00 – 14:45 (Case Studies Track)MES Integration to Automation – The Benefits Marian Brennan, MES Project Manager, Wyeth Medica

This presentation will begin with a brief profile of Wyeth, followed by some background on the company’s rationale for introducing MES to Wyeth - what it sees as the key drivers and benefits. This is followed by the strategy Wyeth decided on to implement MES, the key components of MES being deployed at Wyeth and its integration with other enterprise systems. Finally, the presentation deals with the sustainability of MES at Wyeth.

14:45 – 15:30 (BPM, PDM, PLM Track)Evolution of PLM as an Enterprise IT SystemRaj Khoshoo, Vice President – Strategic Initiatives, Siemens USG PLM Software Automation & Drives

This presentation starts with a brief history of Information Technology (IT) as applied to Product Development followed by customer cases that illustrate the best practices in PLM today. Using these cases as a backdrop, the presentation will then propose PLM as a key enterprise IT system based on a Value/Benefit based framework. The last part of the presentation will cover the relationship of PLM with other enterprise IT systems (MES, SCM, SRM, CRM, ERP etc.) and an illustrative roadmap. Also covered briefly in the presentation will be the impact on management of Product Development vis-à-vis process and metrics.

Presentation Descriptions

Check out our new websitewww.mesa.org

14:45 – 15:30 (Case Studies Track)Implementing MES in a Startup Medical Device Manufacturing Company Colin Boyd, Project Lead, Stirling Medical Innovations

This presentation will provide an overview of de-veloping and implementing MES systems solution, primarily in a research and development platform, while utilizing this structure/architecture to define, plan and implement a manufacturing platform.

What you will learn:Importance of project, scope and specification • definitions. Key attributes of a phased approach when dealing • with multiple manufacturing/operation systems. The challenges of using support systems to • define processes and manufacturing require-ments.

16:00 – 16:45 (BPM, PDM, PLM Track)Are you Using BPM to Integrate PLM with MES and other Manufacturing Operations Execution Tasks? If not, Your Competition May Already Be…Jean-Luc Delcuvellerie, Director of MES Project Management, Apriso

Manufacturers facing frequent new product introductions must be adept at configuring new processes at the shop floor capable of producing the expected quantity and quality of output with competitive differentiation. This presentation will explain how discrete manufacturers now use ‘As Designed’ product data from PLM combined with ‘As Built’ production data from MES to bring products to market faster, more efficiently and with greater quality. These manufacturers are leveraging BPM and SOA technology for lower cost data integration processes between systems and quicker process changes by non IT staff, such as method and process engineers, to adjust the processes and work instructions without having to re-write software

code. Examples from A&D, CPG, Automotive and Medical Device industries will be used to illustrate such solutions.

16:00 – 16:45 (Case Studies Track)Multi-National, Multi-Site Roll-out of MES; Maintainability, etc. Sjaak Labots, MES Applications Manager, NXP Semiconductors

Achieving project-objectives like improved order fulfillment and WIP tracking, meeting increasing traceability requirements, and replacing legacy systems can be a challenge by itself in a single-site implementation.

Multi-site implementation results in additional project-objectives like standardization on one MES system and alignments in Ways-Of-Working between these sites, without loosing the ability to quickly adapt to the continuous changing market-environment.

This case study will give the attendees an overview of the project approach, project achievements and lessons-learned of a multi-site (10+ sites) MES implementation within NXP Semiconductors.

Thursday, 11/810:45 – 11:30 (Integration Track)Should Operators Speak ISA-95?Bianca Scholten, Fellow, Ordina Technical Automation

In this presentation, Bianca Scholten will explore the ideas brought up in the following conversation:

Two people were discussing a graphical user interface of an MES system. ISA-95 terminology was used in this interface. They agreed that this was a typical technical engineering solution and that more attention should have been paid to the user friendliness for the operators. Were they right? Should the use of ISA-95 terminology be avoided in MES user interfaces? Or does that mean that the advantages of speaking the same language within the company are lost?

10:45 – 11:30 (Case Studies Track)Real-Time Plant Data Availability and its Usage with Enterprise Manufacturing SolutionsAbdulhannan M. Karim, System Analyst, Saudi Aramco

In this presentation, the speaker will share his expe-rience with the audience on how Saudi Aramco has been using Plant Information (PI) Systems as Histo-rian for more than 12 years. All plant key parameters data is captured via very intelligent and complex ways and made available to be used by Enterprise Solutions such as SAP and Enterprise Monitoring Systems (EMS). The presentation also will show the audience the existing setups of data historians and how they interact with each other to exchange data and thus to make data available to its destina-tion enterprise applications. Also, this presentation will look at Saudi Aramco’s journey towards a Real-Time Enterprise Application. It will discuss the data flow from the Plant Control Systems to Enterprise Solution applications while highlighting technical challenges that Saudi Aramco faced.

11:30 – 12:15 (Integration Track)Batch Production Management using Standards-Based IntegrationKamel Tordjman, Project Manager, Arizona Chemical Sa.Martin te Lintelo, Business Development Manager MES, Yokogawa System Center Europe B.V.

The experience of Arizona Chemical, a multi-national chemical company, with the installation and operation of an integrated solution for controlling and analyzing batch production in their Niort site in France will be presented.

This facility utilizes a Distributed Control System performing ISA-88 based batch control, handles field management by Foundation Fieldbus instrumentation, and analyzes batches with an ISA-88 based production data historian with web based user interfacing and production reporting that utilizes OPC Batch for data collection from the DCS.

The focus of the presentation will be on the open standards used for the solution and the experiences of Arizona Chemical with them.

PLANT - TO - ENTERPRISE2007 European Conference

B2MML integration earlier with standard tools at Arla Foods, Mr. Svendsen will talk about how joint composite applications developed by an ERP and MES vendor take solutions to a new value level versus sets of tools.

13:45 – 14:30 (Integration Track)Application of B2MML for Manufacturing Control of an Imaging Device Assembly Line at Ocẻ TechnologyJorrit Cuypers, Application Engineer, Ocẻ TechnologyAlain Plasschaert, Industry Consultant/Project Manager, Atos Origin

B2MML (Business 2 Manufacturing Markup Language) is an XML implementation of the ISA-95 standard. For a new imaging device production line for their next generation wide format printing systems, Océ Technologies needed to interface an automated assembly line with a new Manufacturing Execution System. Although ISA-95 and B2MML were developed for the exchange of data between ERP and MES applications, B2MML also proved to be an excellent fit for data exchange between applications within the manufacturing control domain itself. This presentation will give in-depth insight into the design approach, applicability and pitfalls of implementing B2MML, including the “lessons learned.”

13:45 – 14:30 (Case Studies Track)Efficiency Improvement with MESMichel Mans, IT Manager, Tarkett SAS

Tarkett is one of Europe’s leading producers of floors, based on vinyl, laminate and wood. With the application of MES, Tarkett intended to meet a number of challenges, like:• Correct registration of in-line scrap for their coil production for further analysis. Often the scrap is split off from the good product at a much later stage then where it was created.• Determining the exact material consumption per order.

• Complete traceability of the ingoing materials (batch level) per outgoing coil. • Finding the right balance between make-to-stock and make-to-order. • High demands for quality inspection planning and SPC.• Last but not least: reduction of downtime of their 14 production lines. The presentation shows how Tarkett successfully implemented a standard MES and improved on the aforementioned aspects.
