CAPTAIN’S MEETING AGENDA
2017 USTA Mid-Atlantic Adult 18 & Over League Section Championships
Welcome/Introductions
Team Photos – Photos will be taken of Champion and Finalist teams. If other teams would like a team photo please sign up for
a time-slot at the tournament desk.
Court Location & Schedule
Court Rules and 2017 Section Regulations
Team Line-Up Sheets – Completed scorecards must be turned into the Tournament Desk by the team captain at the playing
location no later than 30 minutes prior to when the match is scheduled to start. All team members on the line-up card must be
on-site when you turn in the line-up card. A match could start as early as 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, so it is very
important that your team is present and ready to play when the captain turns in the team line-up card. All players must be
prepared to present photo identification to the tournament desk staff prior to going on the court. We will be doing random ID
checks throughout the tournament.
Tournament Rules – Please review the enclosed tournament rules. Please keep in mind:
- When you are assigned a court please ask your opponent what position they are playing. Make sure you are playing the right
team and position.
- When each individual match is completed all players from that line should report the scores and return the balls to the
tournament desk.
- When the team match is completed the captain from each team must go to the Tournament Desk to confirm scores and SIGN
the scorecard.
- The warm-up rule will be strictly enforced so we can ensure matches go on as scheduled.
- All tiebreakers will utilize the Coman Rotation including the 10-point match tiebreaker in lieu of the third set.
Awards - Awards will be handed out as play ends after completion of each division’s matches. The USTA Mid-Atlantic Section,
will provide up to ten or twelve awards for each Champion and Finalist team. Additional awards may be purchased at the team’s
expense.
Sportsmanship Award – Teams will be asked to nominate one deserving player from each team they compete against for each
match throughout the tournament for the Sportsmanship Award. Those players who receive code violations from a Tournament
Official are not eligible. The recipient will be determined based on player nominations and tournament staff review.
Other Information/Questions
USTA MEMBERSHIP

IMPORTANT TOURNAMENT RULES OF PLAY
1. Match Line-Ups will be included in your captain’s packet at registration and must be turned in to the Tournament Desk
no less than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the match. Failure to do so will result in an automatic $50.00
cash fine for each such occurrence, which must be paid before each offending team may play.
2. Penalties for lateness apply, up to and including forfeiture will be observed throughout the tournament. The
Tournament Desk clock, at the match site, is the official timepiece. This tournament uses “followed by” scheduling. By
rule the Tournament Desk has the right to call matches up to 30 minutes before their scheduled start time, and will so if
courts are available.
3. Once submitted line-ups cannot be changed without the approval of the Tournament Director.
4. The order of play is #1 Singles, #2 Singles, #1 Doubles, #2 Doubles and #3 Doubles. The Tournament Director has the
authority to deviate from this order if needed.
5. A warm-up period not to exceed 5 minutes (including practice serves) shall be observed.
6. All matches shall be best of two tiebreak sets, with regular scoring. In the event of split sets, a match tiebreaker will be
played in lieu of a third set. The Coman Tiebreak shall be used. Please Note: The Tournament Director/Referee
reserve the right to alter the order of play or to implement alternative scoring systems at any time if necessary in their
judgment to complete the tournament within the allotted time.
7. At the conclusion of each individual match, all players must return to the Tournament Desk to report scores and return
the balls. Captains or their designees are required to sign the official scorecard at the conclusion of each team match.
All reported scored are deemed final fifteen minutes after the conclusion of the last individual match. No changes will
be accepted after that time.
8. A Referee will be on hand at all times to enforce proper conduct and observance of rules.
9. Teams departing prior to the completion of all their scheduled matches without the written permission of the
Tournament Director may be disqualified from League play for the following year.
10. YOU MUST BRING A FULL TEAM TO THIS CHAMPIONSHIP. Teams unable to field enough players to compete in all
lines will not be eligible to participate and the next team in line will be asked to advance. Waivers to this rule must be
requested to the Section Office one week prior to attending.
11. If you choose to compete on more than one team, at a different level, no consideration will be given to scheduling.
12. If needed, the USTA tiebreaking procedures will be used to determine champions (2.03H). The 2017 tiebreaking
procedures apply as follows: Team Wins, Individual Matches Won, Head-to-Head, Sets Lost, Games Lost, a Method to
be determined by the Championship Committee. The winner of the third set shall be credited with a set won and a
