Pop Art: Brief History

Pop Art is a post-WWII movement that is highly influence by Dadaism and lead to the beginning of Abstract Expressionism. The movement is

unique to it’s own by becoming popularized through cultural items such as advertisments, products, and media icons. Basically anything that was the hype of the time. The difference between Pop Art and other move-ments was its use of bright colors and the amount of personal connection each artist had to their work. Turning an everyday object that thousands of people have seen or used atleast once in their lifetimes into a piece of admirable art. This was one of the first movements to apply Graphic Design into an artform.

Artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Jamesand others were highly recognized through their work. Though each had their different styles, they all achieved in turning pop culture into art, tastefully that is. A huge trait noticed in Pop Art is the use of bold, bright colors and bold lines. As scrutinized artists in the movement, the work that was produced was still admired then as much as it is today.

Roy Lichtenstein: American Pop-Artist

Roy Lichtenstein was born in Pittsburgh, PA; October 27, 1963. Famous for his comic book style artwork, Roy Lichtenstein became a highly noticeable artist in the Pop Art movement. Both in postive and negative light. He was scrutinized for his uses in comic book style art to the point of being accused of plagerism. He still became one of the most influential artists of the time for bringing art to pop culture: comic books was a huge form of entertainment at the time.

He was always interested and influenced by advertisements and comic books as a teen. By learning the fine arts from highschool through college, Lichtenstein gained adept skill that compared to commercial print. Not only did he draw the line between fine art and entertainment but he expressed inner emotion through every piece. The problem with the movement was subjective to originality, but it gained the attention it needed thus overthrowing the negative. Lichetenstein’s highly recognizable trait in his work was his use of Benday dots. Benday dots create a repetive design to create volume, color, and texture within a form.

Lichtenstein had a long career in his artwork, receiving many large-scale commissions, awards and even a National Medal of Arts in 1995. He continued to create art until the day he died, September 29, 1997 in New York, NY.

Education: Highschool dropout- Became an assassin at a young age.

Deadpool first appeared in Marvel’s issue New Mutants #98 (1990). The origin of him becoming the lovable, psychopath merc we know and love, begins when he enters the Weapon X program. After getting terminal, the program began testing on him to treat the cancer. Through treatment he gained his healing abilities. During an incident where he had killed a fellow operative, he was kicked out of the Weapon X program and sent to

the Hospice. The Hospice is where defective mutant operatives are sent for treatment. There he became the test subject of the sadictive doctor called Doctor Killebrew and his assistant, Ajax. Unspeakable acts were experimented on Wilson to the point where his sanity cracked to the tor-

ture. The Doctor and his assistant began placing bets in a “deadpool” on test subjects to see who would live or die through the brutal experiments. Through these, Wilson came near-death many times, thus creating a semi-romantic relationship with the cosmic-entity, Death, herself. Being on the brink of insanity, Wilson began taunting Ajax instead of cowarding; frustrating the assistant, he lobotomized one of Wilson’s friends. After ending

his friend’s suffering, Wilson was punished by having his heart ripped out of his chest. This only triggered his regenerative abilities in which he killed Ajax and escaped escaped the Hospice, reserving the name “Deadpool”. Due to the things done to him, Deadpool had gained multiple personalities and

usually breaks the third-wall during his internal/external monologues.

Select the size of nails that best match your natural nails.

1. Choose the nail and attach Easy applicator to top of the nail. Apply a generous amount of easy pink glue to underside of the nail. use the glue nozzle to spread it.

2. Place pretty woman nail against the cuticle area of the natural nail at a 45 degree angle.

3. Use the cuticle area as a pivot point and gently lower on to the natural nail. do not press down. remove any excess glue.

REMOVAL: soak in nail polish remover or acetone for 3-5 minutes.
