Students need to keep in mind the following: Colleges want to see you taking challenging courses and at least 3-4 college prep courses per semester. These include your core classes.
Students interested in MSU, U of M or similar colleges MUST have 3-4 college prep courses each semester of high school, including SENIOR year! Do not assume all dual enrollment classes count as college prep!
Many colleges also want to see you take 2 years of the same foreign language. Students who waive the 2nd year to replace it with career center will do so at their own risk.
Students interested in playing sports in a Division 1 or 2 college, must register with NCAA starting in 10th grade. There are strict requirements including certain approved classes, GPA and test scores. Students interested in Division 3, need to work with the college on their requirements. See Counseling website or NCAA for details.
Career Center
Sophomores – you must be on track for junior status in order to go to career center. Credit recovery is available to get you back on track. Sophomores and juniors - You must have also visited the career center program. If you have not visited see me to discuss it. Enrollment forms for priority enrollment are due to me by March 12. Sometime after spring break, you will be notified of your status. Forms will still be accepted after that, but you may not get a spot.
Senior Career Center students can earn embedded credit from their career center program if the regular class does not fit into their HH schedule. The credit is not awarded automatically!!!!! Caution: NCAA and most colleges will not accept embedded credit.
Seniors, to obtain embedded credit, you must fill out a form and have it approved by Mrs. Davis-Green. Embedded credits will show up on the transcript at the end of the school year. Deadline: Mar.27
Students will not be allowed to take cores classes on e2020 unless it is for credit recovery or if the class does not fit into your schedule.
Select your alternate choices thoughtfully. If classes are full or if there are not enough students interested in a class to run it, we will pull from your alternates.
Athletes: Many coaches want you to have a gym class during your season. Football coaches want you to have gym all year. Make sure you make those selections now. A for 1st semester, B for 2nd semester. NO CHANGES WILL BE MADE NEXT YEAR TO ADD GYM TO YOUR SCHEDULE! DO IT NOW! Make sure it is there and in the appropriate semester when you get your schedules in the summer.
Career Exploration Any student interested in exploring careers further can take the ASVAB
– Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery. It is the assessment used for students wanting to go into the military, but you do not have to go into the military to take it. The military does not see the report unless you specifically send it to them. It is free and takes place over 2 afternoons at the career center: April 29 and 30. See me to sign up.
MICHIGAN HOT 50 CAREERS- there is a link on your EDP home page. See what careers are in demand now through 2026 and pay & education needed.
New feature on Career Cruising – Mi Bright Future. You can ask career coaches questions about their jobs. Next year, juniors/seniors can sign up for job shadows.
Career Cruising will be changing its name and look this summer –Xello.
