2. THEORITICAL FRAMEWORK

At:cording to Monitise (2012) an increase in the useof smart phones will lead to an increase in the adoptionof m-banking by most customers in the next few years. Therefore we believe that tertiary students in general arepotential prospeeti ve users of m-banking servit:es.Monitise (2012) identities the primary users ofm-banking are aged between 25 and 34 years old, whogenerally place great value on the efficient use of time.Their experience in using a number of mobilcapplit:ations gives them confidence regarding theset:urity issues of m-banking.

Clark (2012) found that there are three keyingredients that are likely to accelerate the success ofm-banking in Africa. Firstly, there is a wide uptake ofcdl phones by all categories of the society. Secondly, there is an incredible amount of people without bankaccounts and many people that do have accounts do notuse them for various reasons. and lastly. a largepopulation in Al'rica live in rural communities wherethere is limited or no banking infrastrut:ture.

The issues with internet banking art: mostlyconnected to their attitudes, perceptions, and strategies;from the consumer perspective the issues are morerelated to demographics, motivations, attitudes, andsatisfaction (Akinci et al., 20(4). Davis (1989) andmany other researchers (Venkatesh and Davis, 2000;Gerrard and Cunningham, 20(3) have realized thatperceived usefulness has a strong influence over thecustomer's usage of an application. Existing studies orinternet banking focus mainly on three categories. Firsla number of researchers have looked at customers'perceptions of the service delivery quality of internetbanking.

Prior studies suggest that the adoption rate ofinternet banking is still low due to a number of factors:customers' perceptions of risk, their specific needs, lackof knowledge about internet banking, inertia, accessibility of technology, pricing, and IT fatigue(Gerrard et al., 2006). Others have examined t:onsumerusage of and attitudes toward internet banking (Laforetand Li. 2(05) The speed of internet banking (Poon.2(08).. customer satisfaction during the previousinteraction with internet banking serviee:s (Casal6 el al.2DO~. Additionally, trust and perceived uscrulness art:also important factors in the acceptance of internetbanking (Liao and Cheung, 200.2)

3. METHODS

This study used qualitative research methods forin-depth Students' Perception toward smartphone usinginternet banking. Samples of this re:se:arch we:re therespondents who have banking products and takeadvantage of the smartphone. Respondents speciallyused internet banking for purchase in online shop. paypulses etc. We categorize the most significant servicesused and how often the list we made, in addition toidentify the respondents about their perception of the

use oC internet banking. For respondents who do nol useInternet banking. also provided a list of barriers to themand ask thc:m to discuss the: reasons for not usinginternet banking with the aim 01' providing acomprehensive understanding of the perception of theuse of internet banking.

4. RESULT AND DISCUSSION

To delermine .the perception of the use or internclbanking we devided respondents who usc and do notusc: internet banking using a smartphonc:. The rt:sultsshowed that almost half or the students used internetbanking. Out or the 57 respondents there are 42respondents who used internet banking. Pikkarainen etal. (2004) and Guiltinand and Donnelly (1983) whichconfirmed that the adoption of Internet banking isdetermined by the level of aware:ness that customershave about internet banking and the benefits likely. Oflhe re:spondenls who use: interne:t banking, transat:lionsarc: most ot"tt:n ust:u is to look at lht: balanet:. buycre:dilS. shopping online: and most use to transfer money. There are several reasons or the respondents dotransat:tions because of the ease, spe:ed in transactions, trust and lower costs.

The question we: asked relate:d to the: ease oftransaction, some respondents claim to feel comfortableusing internet banking is supported by increasinglysophistit:atc:d smartphones make transactions e:asy andcan be done anytime In addition to their Internetbanking transactions t:an be done effet:tively andefficiently. This concurs with Davis (1989) and manyother researchers (Venkatesh and Davis~2.oOJ): Gcrrarand Cunningham, 2003) have: realized tbat theperception of the benefitS of having a strong intluenceon t:ustomer usage. Psychologically someone willcompare how many conveniences are compared to thebenefits received.

Other results showed that the desire of respondentsusc internet banking is cost. For example use lor thepurposes of purchase credits or pay for clcctrit:ity can beobtained easily and cheap prices. Surely this makes thet:ost prit:e pt:rct:ption is the reason someone uses intt:rnetbanking. Low lransaclion kes: Anothc:r factor lhalwould stand in the: way of consumer adoption ofInternet banking is the: cost factor. In Internet banking, two types of costs are Involved. First. the normal costsassociated with Internet access fees and connectioncharges and secondly the bank fees and charges(Suganthi Cl. AI, 200 I).

The intervie:w we asked for 'respondents who do nOIuse Internet banking. showed that partit:ipants are mostinterested in dire:ct transat:tions meet the seller and ifthc:transaction using online transaction respondents preferto deal through a bank teller or by using ATM. Inaddition, rc:spondents who do not use Internet bunkingadmitted their fear of transactions whether usinginternet banking transfer or transaction can be sent ornot is often constrained by the disruption of the Internet

network. Of course, this makes the customer ortenencountered failure of the transaction that rcsulted indisappointment. This makes some of the respondentswere reluctant to use internet banking

5. CONCLUSION

Based on the results of research and discussion andanalysis, there are several factors that influene<:: aperson's perception of using internet banking. Where aperson's level of understanding in the use of internetbanking is the most important thing possessed.Furthermore, the perception of ease remains the secondimportant reason someone in internet bankingtransactions. in addition to the perception of benefitsand low cost is the reason someone uses internetbanking. The lack of education and information makessome respondents were reluctant to use internetbanking. Banks need to give more information to theircustomers so that their customers will like to useinternet banking. Because by using internet banking.there are many activities that can be done mon: quicklyand easy.
