Document Delivery Service
● Document Delivery Service (DDS) is concerned with the supply of documents to the users on demand either in original or its photocopy in print or non-print/ digital form.
● Documents can be provided from their own library or from other libraries on inter-library loan.
● This service which locates the reqired documents and supplies it to the user on demand is known as DDS.
INSDOC
● Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre (INSDOC) was established in 1952 with technical assistance from United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
● It was established to provide information support to scientist and researchers of the country.
● It functioning under he Council of Scientific and Industrial research(CSIR).
NISCAIR
National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR) came into existence on 30 September,2002.
This was the merge of National Institute of Science Communication (NISCOM) and Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre (INSDOC).
Both NISCOM and INSDOC, the two premier institutes of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), were devoted to dissemination and documentation of S&T information.
The core activity of NISCAIR is to collect/store, publish and disseminate S&T information through a mix of traditional and modern means, which will benefit different segments of society.

Mission● To provide formal linkages of communication among the scientific community in the form of research
journals in different areas of S&T
● To disseminate S&T information to general public, particularly school students, to inculcate interest in science among them
● To collect, collate and disseminate information on plant, animal and mineral wealth of the country.
● To harness information technology applications in information management with particular reference to science communication and modernizing libraries
● To act as a facilitator in furthering the economic, social, industrial, scientific and commercial development by providing timely access to relevant and accurate information
● To develop human resources in science communication, library, documentation and information science and S&T information management systems and services
● To collaborate with international institutions and organizations having objectives and goals similar to those of NISCAIR

Information Resources● One of the core activities of NISCAIR is to collect, organize and disseminate S&T
information generated in India as well as in the world which has relevance to Indian S&T community.
● The institute is building comprehensive collection of S&T publications in print as well as in electronic form and disseminating through traditional as well as modern means benefiting different segments of the society.
● Major resources under this activity are National Science Library (NSL), Electronic Resources, Indigenous Databases, Raw Materials Herbarium and Museum, NISCAIR Online periodical Repository (NOPR), National Knowledge Resource Consortium (NKRC), National Science Digital Library(NSDL), National Union catalogue(NUCSSI).
National Union Catalogue of Scientific Serials in India (NUCSSI) Database
● NISCAIR locates the journals with the help of NUCSSI.
● NUCSSI database contains serials holding information about 850 science libraries in India.
● It helps rationlisation acquisition by encouraging resource sharing.
● It is easy to use (menu driven) and cost effective.● It provides a number of search options such as
author, title, subject, library name etc.
Contents, Abstruct and Photocopy Service (CAPS)
● Subscriber receives tables of contents of selected journals every month from a list of 8000 Indian and foreign periodicals.
● We can get contents of 15 journals as individual person or 30 journals on the behalf of institution.
Full Text Journal service( FTJS)● It is available on paper or through electronic mode.● On browsing through contents,users and place order
for abstracts and copies of full papers.
