Initial Ideas- GenreFor the genre of my product we chose rock or metal as it is a genre that everyone in my group enjoys to listen to. This means that it will be easier for us to make the product as we have an interest in the genre. We didn’t only chose this genre as we like it but also for other reasons such as the conventions used. The conventions got our attention as they are very different from mainstream genres and how the video would be made. The video for a song from this genre is going to be very different from other genres as the rock genre lets you do more interesting things as they do not have to comply with other bands and conventions. This allows them to be more free with their videos and do what they think is best. With the rock or metal theme we can also base the video around the song as most songs in the rock genre follow a story in the video. This will give the video more meaning and will let us have a baseline for what to use in the video.

Initial Ideas- BandsWhen choosing the band we made a list of all the bands that we knew in the genre of music that we wanted to do. We came up with quite a large list of bands which gave us a large selection on what we could do and use. We listened to music from each band and thought about which would be most suitable for the project and what we want to do. After this we had a selection of bands that we knew we could use for the project. We then thought about which band would be best for the project from the remaining few. In the end we had two bands that we could use for our project, each with a separate style of music video conventions. This meant that we had to listen to music from each band and watch the videos and decide on which we could make a better video for. After listening to lots of music from each band we decided to go with Avenged Sevenfold for the band we use for our video. We decided to use them as the band as their songs tend to have more of a storyline to them which means that we can use the video to convey the lyrics. They also have their own conventions that many other bands don’t have so the video can be more original and entertaining.

Initial Ideas- Songs• When Choosing a song for our music video we had three main

contenders. These were “Afterlife”, “Nightmare” and “Almost Easy”. All of these songs would be good for our music project so we all sat down and listened to them all and thought about which would be the most suitable for our project. After looking at all the conventions used in the videos for each song we thought about what we could do with each song and what would make them good. In the end we were stuck between the choice of “Nightmare” and “Almost Easy”. Both of these songs would be very good for our project but in the end we decided to go with “Nightmare” as it would be the most suitable and we could do more with it and be more creative in the video. Once we decided on what song to do we started to think about what we are going to do within the video. The lyrics of the song is a major factor on what to put in the video so we all thought about what we could involve in the music video.
