3WELCOME - BENVENUTO!

Welcome to the 7th Annual Italian American Heritage Festival. We anticipate another wonderful first Sunday in June as a time to celebrate the unique personality of Italian American heritage and

culture in the Delaware Valley. Our food and sweet table vendors have prepared their specialties once again, so there’s plenty of Italian goodies to satisfy your appetite. While you listen to the sounds of Italian and Italian American favorites from our renowned performers, check out the exotic car exhibit, visit the novelty tables, watch some expert bocce playing and bring the kids to the Kid’s Field of Fun. There’s also a meatball and gravy contest, raffles and this year you can take a chance on our new Wall of Wine. Many thanks to the Rose Tree Park staff for their generous help in making the festival possible.

Melissa Cannavo-Marino hosts the program Mattinata Musicale, a bi-lingual program of Italian & Italian American songs Sunday mornings on 1450 WILM AM as well as a show on

610 AM Sports. Cannavo-Marino began broadcasting on Philadelphia’s full-time language network FM sub-carrier station WIBC in 1999. She holds an Italian Triennale degree from the University of Macerata where she studied for several years. The festival is pleased to welcome Melissa as our Master of Ceremonies this year.

The Neglia Band is from Clifton, NJ. The group has performed at various feast day celebrations in the Delaware Valley area

including Hammonton NJ, Wilmington, DE, and Philadelphia, as well as in the North Jersey and New York area. The band was founded by Tony Neglia and is now under the direction of Rich DeZao.

Coro Gabriele D’Annunzio (The Coro) established in 1994, is under the d i r e c t i o n of Maestro F e d e r i c o Piantini and is sponsored by the Associazione Regionale Abruzzese of the Delaware Valley. Dressed in traditional costume, they have performed folk songs, Italian classics, and operatic selections at festivals, parades, colleges, and churches throughout the area for many years.

CONTINUOUS ENTERTAINMENT

The Pennsport String Band has embraced a model of string band that is revolutionary. They are not a year-round string band. They are a three month a year organization (October through New Years) with a sole focus on their New Year’s Day performance. The sting band has graciously agreed to perform at the festival this year, so be sure to wear your “Mummer’s Strut” shoes!

See page 10 for performance times and the full Entertainment and Activity Schedule.

7MUSICAL HEADLINERS

Tre Bella is a three part harmony girl group with a flair towards Italian and Italian Amer-ican pop music. Their vocal harmonies are in-comparable. The girls have headlined at per-forming art centers and concert halls across the county. JoAnn Robertozzi is the “archi-tect” of Tre Bella and the creative force behind Ti Piace, Italian American Presentations, Inc. which dedicates itself to promoting Italian heritage through art and culture. Multi-plati-num hit songwriter Lorraine Ferro has a voice that has been compared to legendary perform-ers such as Edith Piaf and Janis Joplin. Rosie De Sanctis is a native of Delaware County and remembers her first role of the Blessed Mother in her 8th grade Christmas production.

Vito Lombardo, singer/entrepreneur, is new to the Philadelphia area having ap-peared for the first time at the 2015 Ital-ian Music Festival at Widener University. His performance was very well received leading to his invi-tation to this year’s Italian American Fes-tival. Born and raised in Brooklyn of Sicil-ian parents, Vito has performed for years in and around New York City with NY based party bands. Recently, he has per-formed more as a solo artist for corporate affairs, weddings and fund raisers.Ciao Delco is pleased to again welcome this remarkable entertainer to share his selection of Italian and Italian American favorites.

24CIAO DELCO CHARITIES

CIAO Delco was established in 2013 with the specific purpose of producing and establishing the Italian American Heritage Festival as a major annual event in Delaware County. Through its member organizations, CIAO Delco donates to a variety of charities. The primary focus of our contributions is the promotion and continuation of Italian culture and of the unique Italian American heritage in the Delaware valley. Contributions are also made to organizations with a focus on children, education, individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities and health issues. For a complete list of charities by organization, please visit our web site: ciaodelco.org.

Don Guanella Group Home Program

The Don Guanella Developmental Programs division provides residential services for men over the age of

21 with a primary diagnosis of Intellectual Disabilities. Don Guanella Village is committed to the belief that each individual has the right to strive to fulfill his potential in the physical, mental, emotional, social, psychological, and spiritual areas of his life. Each individual is unique and therefore entitled to strive for such fulfillment in an environment that will most fully contribute to his growth and development.

The Cooley’s Anemia Foundation is dedicated to serving people afflicted with various forms of thalassemia, most notably the major form of this genetic blood disease, Cooley’s anemia/thalassemia major. The mission of the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation is to increase life expectancy and enhance the quality of life for those impacted by thalassemia, a class of genetic blood disorders, most of which require regular blood transfusions and aggressive management of chronic iron overload, the predominant cause of early death. We do so by funding medical research to advance treatment and curative approaches, by supporting and advising patients and their families and advocating on their behalf, and by educating medical professionals and the general public.

The Knights of Columbus f o u n d i n g

principles are charity, unity and fraternity.Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities. The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council since its inception in 1880 to more than 15,100 councils and 1.9 million members today.

Working to end Cancer... Top minds in cancer research suggest that ending cancer is entirely possible. It is reasonable to expect that we can “cure cancer,” which is now the number-two cause of death in this country. In some cases, we already have. Cancer is the general name for more than 100 diseases, and we are currently able to cure a number of them. Breast cancer, most skin cancers, testicular cancer, Hodgkin lymphoma, and thyroid cancer are a few of the cancers with a high cure rate, and research in several key areas is increasing the odds of curing – and preventing – more types.

Italian Studies & Student Exchange Programs

Through the Italian Studies Program at Widener University, CIAO Delco contributes funds to scholarships for local students who are of Italian heritage and who excel in Italian studies as well as student exchange programs with Italian universities.Support is also provided for Italian Cinema Night at Widener University. The screenings are sponsored by the Italian Club, Il Circolo Italiano, whose goal is to bring culture to campus through Italian cinema. Films are shown in Alumni Auditorium on the last Wednesday of each month. Discussion groups follow the screenings.CIAO Delco contributes to Italian language s t u d i e s programs at N e u m a n n University as well.
