Company’s ProfileLink Car Rentals is a medium-scale sole

proprietorship established in November 2007 in New Delhi, India and will commence operating in the Summer of 2008.

Link plans to cater to the foreign tourist visiting India and anticipates capturing a 2.3% market share in the tourism/car rental industry within the span of 2 to 3 years.

Operating ActivitiesLink Car rental plans to provide its services

at a very reasonable prices to survive in the highly competitive market. The management hopes to achieve that by optimizing their operating activities and thereby cutting down their cost.

Problem IdentificationOne of the key problems that the

Management is concerned with is the redundancy and inconsistency of the data, which will make it cumbersome to retrieve the relevant information.

The management expects to reduce human errors in the registrations and the invoices by using a database management system.

Company’s RequirementsThe Management requires a system that

will efficiently keep a track on the increasing vehicle requirement and availability of the chauffeurs.

The Management wants a centralized control on all the operating data especially relevant information about the customers to comply with the privacy laws.

The management wants a system to monitor the timely payments to effectively manage their working capital.

LimitationsThe current DBMS has very limited scope for

expansion with the expansion of the companyIf new business rules are introduced a high

level of design modification is required in the Database

The current system lacks extensive testing and needs sufficient maintenance to fix any bugs if encountered in the future.

As the database is on Microsoft Access platform it has a generic limitation with data sharing.

Future OpportunitiesThe main potential for this database is linking

it up with HTML and uploading it with the company’s website. This will enable customers to register in advance according to their own preferences.
