PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Parent Newsletter – Week 9 T4 x Senior Choir Hepburn House x 5/6C Making a Difference x School Captain Speeches x Junior & Senior Choir Performances x P-2 swimming program x Daylesford District Community Bendigo Bank x Yandoit concert x Family Contact Details

Well done to the Senior Choir who performed at Hepburn House last week. They certainly brought some joy to the senior citizens.

Grade 5/6C continue their commitment to ‘Making a Difference’ see their article on page 3.

Congratulations and well done to the entire 15 grade 5 students who nominated for 2016 school captain. The quality of speeches was excellent and was very well received by an appreciative grade 3-5 audience. It pleases me greatly that so many students want to aspire towards leadership roles.

The Junior and Senior Choirs performed on the terrace at The Grande Hotel on Sunday. It was a lovely afternoon and the children performed beautifully. Thank you to all the families who were able to attend. Some funds were raised to support the choir program which we are committed to offer again in 2016. Sincere thanks goes to Ian and Jodie Hawkins of the Grande for supporting the school with this function and fund raiser.

A HUGH thanks to Paul Thomas our groundsman for his BIG effort to get our pool up and running for this week’s P-2 swimming program. It is such an excellent resource and we are very fortunate to be able to offer the swimming program. Already we can see an improvement in the children’s water confidence. At assembly this week, I encouraged the EY students to maximise this opportunity, by swimming every session and working hard to improve every day. Some photos will appear on the website soon.

I would like to acknowledge the sponsorship by the Daylesford District Community Bendigo Bank towards our swimming program. Without their support the school would struggle to cover all the costs associated with the running of the program and the levy to parents would be far greater.

Well done to the Yandoit school community. The end of year concert was yet again another very successful event. Congratulations to the team of Deb Rauber, Josie Berto, Nicole Wassell, Dave Lewis and Michelle Quinn. This very dedicated band of staff have combined together extremely well throughout the entire year to deliver an excellent program at Yandoit P.S. We are indeed very fortunate to have such a dynamic group of staff. I would also like to thank the Yandoit SC for their support this year. Acknowledging their willingness to do what is required to bring about the best for the children. Finally, Family information envelopes were sent home earlier in the week. Could we please ask that all forms be completed and returned to the office as soon as possible in order to keep all records up to date.

THE GLOBAL GOALS 5/6C’s Make A Difference Project is continuing to make a difference. As part of this project we’ve decided to help tackle the Global Goals. They started in 2000 and have already made a HUGE amount of difference all around the world. They have just revised this and set up the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to reach by 2030. These involve health, education, poverty, inequalities, economy, sustainability, infrastructure, life above and below water as well as peace, justice and partnerships for the goals. We have each written letters to Catherine King, addressing one of these topics to help raise awareness. If you want to see a better world in 2030… jump on board! Spread the word and help with the ones that you can change.

Hepburn Shire Recreation & Open Space Strategy Community Survey

Hepburn Shire Council is currently preparing a Recreation & Open Space Strategy for the municipality. The purpose of this strategy is to help guide Council and the broader community to make decisions about where best to invest time and resources in relation to recreation and open space programs, services and facilities over the next 10 years. Communityvibe is working with the Shire to develop the Recreation and Open Space Strategy. We are particularly keen to hear from you about what activities you currently participate in and your ideas to improve the recreational and open space opportunities for all. This will help us to shape the final plan. How can you be involved? 3 Complete a survey by Friday 18 December. Surveys are available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/dayhepglen. Please encourage everyone in your household to fill in a survey. Hard copies of the survey are also available at Daylesford Town Hall. For more information, please contact Wendy Holland at communityvibe on 0438 433 555 or [email protected].
