Take Control of Your Thanksgiving and Holiday To-Do Lists By Bob Sadowski, APR, Public Relations & Social Media Manager, ACCO Brands Thanksgiving is only two days away…there, I said it. Two days. Did your stress level just go up a notch? Did you pull out your holiday to-do list to check your progress? Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed all of a sudden? These are all normal reactions during the holidays. Even master planners and organizers feel a little pressure when Thanksgiving and the long weekend that follows sneaks up on them. Stress is only one of the problems this causes. Another major downfall of being overwhelmed with an unmanageable and time- stretched to-do list is the domino effect that takes place and knocks you off your track to task completion and productivity. Despite these pressures, there is one easy thing you can do to help remedy this. Every morning when you’re pulling together your to-do list—and just the sight of it is sending chills down your spine—designate the first task on the list as one that can be completed in 30 minutes or less. For this week, some examples include: Clean off the kitchen counter and other food preparation space Review your guest list and make notes concerning dietary requirements and quantities of items to prepare Organize your menu and, if needed, create a shopping list for items needed Clean out the refrigerator to make room for pre-prepared food, carry-ins and leftovers Why make one of these smaller, less complex steps the first to complete? Simple: It gives you a sense of achievement and encouragement that your list is, indeed, very manageable. Starting off the day on the right foot speaks volumes and will undoubtedly reduce your stress level and put you back in control. Get started today! And here’s to a wonderful and manageable Thanksgiving from all of us at Day Runner!
