ARTICLE I.COVENANTS-

1.01 CCAC covenants as follows:

A. CCAC agrees that in order for its Allied Health Departmentstudents to qualify for consideration for admission and advancedstanding in the School of Health Related Professions at theUniversity as a Health Records Administration major the CCACstudent must fulfill the following conditions:

1) They must have completed an Associate of Science degree andprerequisite courses which are outlined in Exhibit A, earneda minimum overall quality point average of 2.50 (based on a4.0 scale) and a prerequisite quality point average of atleast 2.50; and completed all application proceduresrequired by the University of Pittsburgh and the School ofHealth Related Professions.

2) In order to be awarded advanced standing credit, a "C" gradeor higher must be earned in each course that is included inthe Associate degree program in Medical Record Technician(MRT) (see Exhibit "A" attached hereto and incorporated

herein by reference).

3) A transfer student from CCAC-Allegheny Campus will beawarded a baccalaureate degree from the University ofPittsburgh upon completion of the courses outlined inExhibit "B" attached hereto and incorporated herein byreference, according to the graduation requirements of theProgram in Health Records Administration in the School ofHealth Related Professions at the University of Pittsburgh.

CCAC understands that University is not guaranteeing admission orthe reservation of a specified number of openings for CCACstudents.

University Covenants as follows:

University agrees to consider CCAC Allied Health Departmentstudents who have completed all application procedures requiredby the University of Pittsburgh and the School of Health RelatedProfessions and completed all prerequisite courses as set forthin provision 1.01 A. above, for admission and advanced standingin University's School of Health Related Professions.

ARTICLE II. TERM AND TERMINATION- - -

This Agreement shall be effective on the date first above writtenand shall be in existence for a period of two (2) years. TheAgreement may be renewed for subsequent two (2) year terms ifboth parties agree to such in writing at least thirty (30) daysprior to the termination date.

This Agreement may be terminated by either party without causeupon one (1) academic year's written notice.

Emergency Medicine Program

The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) and the School of Health andRehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) at the University of Pittsburgh recognize the need andimportance of facilitating the transfer of students from one institution to the other as they pursuetheir educational goals. In an effort to ensure that transfer students be treated on an equal basis,and to make the full resources of both institutions available to the students, the colleges enter intothe following articulation agreement.

There are three options for CCAC students interested in the University of Pittsburgh’s School ofHealth and Rehabilitation Sciences Bachelors Program in Emergency Medicine: 1) CCACParallel EM Program, 2) CCAC EM Prerequisite Program, and 3) CCAC Paramedic Program.This flexibility provides the opportunity to meet as many students’ needs as possible.

CCAC Parallel EM Program

The CCAC Parallel EM Program is designed to enable the student to take all of the prerequisitesfor the EM program and paramedic certification at CCAC, and transfer to the University ofPittsburgh to complete the requirements for the Bachelors Degree.Upon completion of theCCAC Parallel EM Program specified in this document, a student may expect to:

1. Complete all program prerequisite coursework and paramedic certification at theCommunity College of Allegheny County.

2. Be guaranteed admission to the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences providedthat:a. an overall quality point average of 2.80 on a 4.00 scale has been attained at CCAC in

the CCAC/SHRS Prerequisite Program coursework, andb. Successfully complete the paramedic program and become Nationally Registered as

an EMT-Paramedic.

Important Note: students who meet the above requirements are guaranteed admission toSHRS.

. All others (those with lower grade point averages and/or fewer credits) are still eligible toapply for transfer admission. Admissions decisions will be made after an individual

Associate Degree at CCAC, it is not required for admission to SHRS.

3. Have the courses specified as EM Program Prerequisites accepted for transfer by theUniversity of Pittsburgh, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. To transfer, allcourses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

4. Have all of the credit courses that are accepted by the School of Health and RehabilitationSciences applied to the attaimnent of the Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medicine.(BSEM) degree, thus resulting in the student receiving 64 credits and junior status inSHRS.

5. Receive 16 advanced standing credits for the clinical component of the Paramedicprogram.

6. Receive one credit of advanced standing for Trauma Lab (EM 112 1) for BTLScertification.

7. Have the opportunity to obtain up to 23 credits toward their EM degree through an examchallenge process.

8. Be required to complete a sun-n-native field evaluation (EM1 140) of 1-3 credits.

9. Complete the remaining required coursework at the University of Pittsburgh.

CCAC EM Prerequisite Program

The CCAC EM Prerequisite Program is designed to enable the student to take all of theprerequisites for the EM program at CCAC, and transfer to the University of Pittsburgh tocomplete the requirements for the Bachelors Degree.Upon completion of the CCAC EMPrerequisite Program specified in this document, a student may expect to:

1. Complete all program prerequisite coursework at the Community College of Alleghenycounty.

2. Be guaranteed admission to the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences providedthat the overall quality point average of 2.80 on a 4.00 scale has been attained at CCAC inthe EM Prerequisite Program coursework

Important Note: students who meet the above requirements are guaranteed admission toSHRS.Ail others (those with lower grade point averages and/or fewer credits) are still eligible toapply for transfer admission. Admissions decisions will be made after an individualreview of each student’s record. Although students are encouraged to complete theAssociate Degree at CCAC, it is not required for admission to SHRS.

The CCAC Paramedic Program is designed to enable the student to take their paramediccertification at CCAC, and transfer to the University of Pittsburgh to complete the requirementsfor the Bachelors Degree. Upon completion of the CCAC Paramedic Program a student mayexpect the to:

1. Complete the paramedic program at the Community College of Allegheny County.

2. Complete all EM program prerequisites at the University of Pittsburgh.

3. Be guaranteed admission to the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences providedthat:a.

Student Services

Students transferring from the Community College of Allegheny County to the University ofPittsburgh will be treated on an equal basis with other University of Pittsburgh students withRegard to the awarding the distribution of financial aid, campus housing, selection of courses andother student services.

Admissions Process

Students who are pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medicine will follow theprogram specified in this document. Once complete, the student will complete the University ofPittsburgh Transfer Application, and submit it, along with all required official academictranscripts and documents to the University of Pittsburgh.

(Complete instructions for transfer application are included in the application booklet. Thebooklet may be obtained from either CCAC or SHRS. Provided that the student has met therequirements specified earlier, he/she will be accepted into the School of Health andRehabilitation Sciences.

Letter of Intent (Optional)

Students who would like to identity themselves to the School of Health and RehabilitationSciences as a Prerequisite or Parallel Program participant may do so by completing the attachedLetter of Intent and sending it to SHRS. Participation is optional, but offers certain benefits,including:

*Invitations to events taking place in the Emergency Medicine Program (includingPre-hospital grand rounds, speakers, receptions, and other programs)*Inclusion in the EM Program e-mail distribution list, which provides announcements and up-to-date information about developments in SHRS.*Direct access to a SHRS academic advisor, for questions about coursework, deadlines, transferpolicies, and other issues that may arise.
