Athens v Sparta• Athens’ Government ruled

as a democracy. They were the first to ever do this. What do we mean by the word democracy?

• The city of Sparta was strictly ruled by the king. He made all of the decisions in Sparta.

• The city of Athens is built below the acropolis which stands on a hill high above all of Athens.

• Sparta is surrounded by mountains, which makes it difficult for it to be invaded.
