Day 1 - Our senses Think about your senses. Can you make a mind-map of your senses and some nice

examples for each sense? I have started one for you here…

Day 2 – The Fussy Eater Read the poem ‘The Fussy Eater’. Which of the senses is the poem about? What makes you think that? What do you notice?

Day 2 continued - Rhyming

Can you hear any rhyming words? What is the same about the words and what is different? Go through the poem and highlight the rhyming words. Can you think of any other words that rhyme with the words from the poem?

Day 3 – Writing Poetry Today I’d like you to add a verse to ‘The Fussy Eater’ poem. Read the poem again, what could the next verse be about? Perhaps it could be about trying something new? I’d love to see some of your ideas – email to me at school and I’ll share them with the class!

Day 4 – Performing Poetry

Can you learn the poem, by heart, then perform it to someone in your family or a friend? You could film yourself and send it to me at school.

Day 5 – Reading Comprehension

Day 6 – At the Zoo

Read ‘At the Zoo’. Encourage actions and expression in their voices.

Day 7 – Writing Poetry

Think of our senses again and what sounds the animals make. What noises do these animals make? Brainstorm all the sounds they make.

Can you write a poem about animal noises? My attempt is on the next page……can you do better?

Day 8 – I Asked The Little Boy Who Cannot See

Read the poem below. Talk about the different colours and

the associations made with each colour. What other colours

can you think of and what can you associate them with?

Encourage descriptive language.

Day 9 – Colour Poem

Recap on the poem from yesterday. Can you write a colour poem? You could think of a theme, like African animals, ‘yellow is the long neck of a giraffe’. Or is could be about your garden, ‘green is the long blade of grass’.

Perhaps you could use colouring pencils to write your poem in different colours to reflect the colour you are describing?
