He Graduated with MBBS degree from Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Wardha in the year 2000 and passed post-graduation in MD Biochemistry from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in the year 2005. He is an active member of medical education unit and has done his Foundation for Advancement in International Medical Education & Research (FAIMER) fellowship from PSG FAIMER Coimbatore regional institute in the year 2012. He has also pursued his Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME) from St John’s Regional institute in 2017 and PhD in the field of Diabetes mellitus by targeting the molecular mechanisms leading to lipogenesis and lipolysis from JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research in the year 2018.He has been instrumental in establishing the Centre of excellence in molecular biology and regenerative medicine (CEMR) which has funding up to 10 crores from various funding agencies like DST, DBT, ICMR and Vision group on Science and technology, Government of Karnataka. He has about 45 publications in reputed journals and is a peer reviewer for more than 18 journals. He has served on many additional posts like Associate Editor of International Journal of Health & Allied Sciences (IJHAS) and important positions at the JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research related to quality assurance and holds key responsibility with NAAC accreditation, NIRF rankings and International rankings and accreditations as an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Coordinator/Director. He is an active member and former Vice President of the Association of Medical Biochemists of India for the year 2018 and believes “Action has more to deliver than words”.

Dr Anand R is a Pulmonologist by qualification and training and practising in a 600 bed tertiary care hospital in India (KMC Hospital, Mangalore). He is currently working as the Professor of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India which is one of the leading medical colleges in India. He is also an Associate Dean and is in charge of academics and international collaborations. His areas of special interest are airway management and interventional pulmonology. He is passionate about teaching especially innovations in medical education. He is the Convenor of the Medical Education Unit and as a member of the team is trying to bring about a change in teaching-learning-evaluation. He has been the recipient of the Good Teacher award of Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore thrice. He is zealous about quality in healthcare and in particular accreditation systems. He has been involved in the implementation of quality management system in his organization. He has participated as a faculty in various training programmes and delivered guest talks on various Pulmonology, medical education and quality related topics. He also has to his credit 17 international and national papers.

Anand Kukkamalla Lecturer (Selection Grade) - Microbiology, Melaka Manipal Medical College (Manipal Campus), Manipal University, Manipal

Kukkamalla Anand is at present working as a Selection Grade Lecturer in Microbiology; Department of Microbiology, Melaka Manipal Medical College (Manipal Campus), Manipal. Prior to joining MMMC, he was working as a lecturer in Oxford Dental College, Bangalore. He has successfully completed the FAIMER fellowship in 2012. The project was “Evolving a training program for PBL tutors at MMMC for enhancing their facilitation skills”. He have been actively involved in teaching Medical Microbiology for the past 17 years, handling administrative responsibilities (both institution as well as University level) pertaining to student affairs, hostels (Warden for over 15 years), admissions process, examination process and faculty advisor of Student Council, Magazine committee. He has been involved with the activities of the Manipal Centre for Personal and Professional Development (MCPD), Manipal University, Manipal as a member and resource person. He has conducted many workshops on mentoring, time management, PBL and PBL facilitation. He conducts the PBL orientation and PBL facilitation at MMMC. He has been a mentor since 1998 to the medical as well as dental students. He has attended an elaborate five day workshop on Pedogogy & Personal development and also Student evaluation workshop (5 day) organized by the Department of Medical Education, K.M.C, Manipal. He has also participated in a training program” FEEL TEACHER” conducted by the CLHRD, AIM INSIGHTS group, Mangalore. He has published articles on Self Directed Learning (SDL) strategies in Microbiology, Pathway MCQs in Microbiology, PBL facilitation skills, Designing PBL problems and articles in Microbiology. His interest in medical education include PBL/CBL, assessment, effective learning strategies among students. He is an ardent lover of music, interested in playing games, watching movies, reading books (novels), making new friends and travelling and visiting different places of the world.

Having successfully completed his tenure as Head of Department for 5 years recently, he is currently a Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangalore. Dr. Jain is a FAIMER Fellow of 2008 batch from PSG-FRI, Coimbatore. He had successfully completed his Advanced Course in Medical Education in 2015. He had completed his PG Diploma in Bioethics and Medical Ethics from Yenepoya University and is the Head of Mangalore Unit of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics.

He is the Deputy Convener of Medical Education Unit at KMC, Mangalore. He is also a faculty for two FAIMER regional institutes – PSG FRI, Coimbatore and M-FIILIPE, Manipal. Dr. Jain is a PhD guide for MAHE, Manipal and a resource person and an expert as well as external examiner for PhD programme of Yenepoya and NITTE University. He has been a member of PhD Registration Committee of RGUHS, Bangalore (2015 – 18), and is currently an External Expert for Curriculum Committee of RGUHS.

He is also a member of South East Asia Regional Association of Medical Education and several other national and international professional organizations. He has been awarded the “Best innovative practice in teaching and training of Community Medicine” at the IAPSM National Conference 2019. He was also shortlisted for the second stage of BMJ Awards South Asia 2018 in Medical Education category. He was part of a multidisciplinary team that won the Manyata Awards in August 2019 at Bangalore for the Innovative Teddy Bear Clinic for school children.

He has several publications to his credit and has delivered several presentation and guest lectures nationally and internationally. He is the founding Executive Editor of Annals of Community Health; Editor, Webmedcentral and Founding Associate Editor of Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences (2015 – 17) besides being a reviewer for several reputed journals. He has also contributed as an author in the IAPSM Textbook of Community Medicine published by Jaypee Brothers.

His areas of special interest are soft skills training, health professions education, research methodology and bioethics besides his core speciality and epidemiology.

An avid traveller and an enthusiast photographer, he is also an active Rotarian, being the past President of Rotary Club Mangalore Sunrise. He is happily married to Dr. Rashmi Jain, FAIMER Fellow, bioethicist and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore. Their little princess Ira is eleven years old.

Dr Ramprasad Vasthare Prabhakar works as Professor and Head in the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal, Manipal University. He is involved with teaching Dental Under Graduates and Post Graduates. He takes a special interest in areas related to Dental Education, Teaching and Learning, Epidemiology, Research Methodology and Tobacco Cessation. He has completed a Short-Term Certificate Course in Tobacco Cessation and Health Promotion from Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi. He is an active Life Member of many National and International related organizations and also a representative member of the South East Asia region for the Oral Health Working Group of the World Federation of Public Health Associations.
