Transcript of David Atkins, A Sense of Place
McAllister Thomas Fine Art is delighted to be hosting our second solo exhibition of David Atkins' paintings.
Initially discovered by the art critic Brian Sewell, David is now one of the most renowned British Landscape
painters of his generation, with a style that is instantly and distinctly recognisable.
Over the years, David has built up an impressive collectors base both at home and internationally. Having trained
at some of Britain’s finest art schools including St. Martin’s and Winchester. David has always had a passion for painting landscapes.
For this exhibition David has travelled to various parts of Britain, capturing the beauty and majestic landscapes and seascapes of Norfolk, Dorset, West Sussex and for the first time The Lakes.
David writes:
‘Painting out in the landscape I am aware of the rapidly changing conditions of light, weather, time of day and season. It forces me to work with incredible intensity and energy, searching constantly for the moment when my
painting reflects some essence of the place and my experience of it at that time.
In this exhibition I have chosen to work in landscapes that echo a sense of the sublime; rivers and mountains,
rocks and waves, distant castles, stormy weather and evening light. These are subjects I have encountered end lessly in the paintings of great painters, such as Titian, Turner and Constable and are the subjects that first
inspired me to paint.’
