HABITS OF A SUCCESSFUL LEARNER—BEING ORGANISED
One of the most important characteris#cs of a successful
learner is the ability to be organised. When we are or-
ganised we give ourselves the best opportunity to
achieve success. When we are disorganised, this can be-
come a barrier to achievement. At primary school age
many students are learning about what it means to be
organised for school. We work with the students on vari-
ous aspects of organisa#on, including;
♦ Ensuring that you have your reader, pencil case and
drink boDle etc. for each school day.
♦ Ensuring that you look a>er your tools and work-
books (sta#onary) so that they are accessible when
needed in class.
♦ Maintaining a #dy desk, tub and locker.
♦ Storing things where they belong—bags in lockers,
books and sta#onary in tubs—so they do not get mis-
placed or lost.
♦ Listening clearly to instruc#ons at the beginning of a
lesson so you understand what you have to do when
you move back to your seat.
♦ Making sure the newsleDer and any notes are taken
home and given to Mum or Dad.
At home, having an a>er school rou#ne such as unpack-
ing their school bag and geEng their reader ready for
nightly reading are ways in which students could be sup-
ported to be organised.
CLUSTER ATHLETIC SPORTS (GRADES THREE-SIX)
Our Athletic Sports Day is on Friday 4th Sep-
tember at the Athletics Complex, Retreat Rd,
Flora Hill. This is for all students in Grades
Three-Six and is always an enjoyable day.
Our students will compete against those
from the other Campaspe Cluster schools in a range of
events including sprint, distance run, hurdles, shot put
and long jump. Students have also been given the op-
portunity to try our for our relay team. Parents are en-
couraged to attend on the day and cheer on our stu-
dents.
We ask that parents please find attached to today’s
newsletter further details and a permission form to be
returned to the school by Thursday 3rd September.
Principal’s Report SCHOOL COUNCIL
The next mee#ng of our School Council is on Monday
14th September, beginning at 7.00pm. Finance Com-
miDee will meet at 6.30pm.
HOME READING
Well done to those families who have continued to
support our efforts to encourage reading at home. It
has been very pleasing to see many students reading
aloud to an adult on a regular basis at home.
So far in 2015 we have had about 135 days of school.
66% of students in the Prep-Two classroom have
achieved 100 nights or more of home reading and 50%
of students in the Three-Six class
Keep up the good work!

Quote of the Week
“The ideal three stories a day are one favourite,
one familiar, and one new, but the same book
three times is also fine.”
― Mem Fox, Reading Magic: Why Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever
HIGH FIVE
A high five to all of those families who sup-
ported the FOTS Wood Raffle by selling/
purchasing #ckets over the past few weeks.
To raise $928.00 Is a fabulous achievement
and shows what our community is capable
of achieving—Well done all!
BOOK WEEK DRESS UP ACTIVITY
It is great to hear that many students have already
organised a costume for Book Week. A reminder
that our Book Week Day is Wednesday 2nd Septem-
ber. This year’s theme is ’Books Light up our World’.
Students are able to come to school dressed as their
favourite book character or in a costume related to
the theme on this day.
We will be having a short parade of
costumes at 9.00am on this day.
Parents are welcome to come
dressed in costume and join in our
parade.
All the students took advantage of the fine weather and completed the weeding of the food
garden. Many years ago we couldn’t even get a spade through the hard soil but aer many
bucket loads of organic maer, the soil is now so and full of worms. Well done kids!
