Parent Opinion Survey 2017 – Reminder In the last newsletter there were details relating to the DET Parent Opinion Survey for 2017. Please note this year the survey is on line and 30% of parents have been selected to participate through a random selection process. These parents have today received their log in details. We encourage them to complete the survey as soon as possible in the 3-week period. Footscray Learning Precinct (please see information provided in the newsletter of June 23rd) Update from the Victorian School Building Authority Help shape the next stage of the Footscray Learning Precinct In November last year, we presented a vision for a learning precinct for Melbourne’s inner-west. It was a vision to create and link state-of-the-art facilities across the region, providing innovative and world-leading education from early childhood through to university and adult education. The vision includes:

a greater choice of education for families in the inner west

a seamless education from early learning to adult education

helping young people prepare for work by aligning skills, knowledge and competencies with the future needs of industry

expanding community use of facilities and services delivered at school through enhanced partnerships with Maribyrnong City Council,

business, community organisations, Victoria University, and other education providers

a shared learning framework – with an agree set of learning principles across the precinct providing ‘pathways’ that maximize opportunities for every learner to achieve their potential

What you have said We received valuable feedback from the community and everyone has been doing a lot of work since then to incorporate the feedback and progress the precinct. We want to hear from you again Now we want you to help shape the next stage of the precinct and get your input into the design of the school buildings, transition arrangements for students, community use of facilities and other aspects of the precinct including the shared learning framework.

We want to share the challenges of delivering the next stage of the precinct, bringing you into the process as we develop solutions. Please visit our online engagement platform to help shape the next stage: https://engage.vic.gov.au/flp Attend the community workshop: Thursday 17th August 6.30p.m. – 8p.m. Footscray Town hall (flyers containing information re the Footscray learning Precinct can be found in the main foyer of the school) Woolworths Earn and Learn – Reminder Is back for 2017 and we are asking all KPS families to support the students, by bringing in those Woolworths Earn & Learn stickers. You can collect your stickers now – the collection timeline began on July 26th and continues until September 19th. Student Led Conferences Student Led Conferences are a highlight of early Term 3 and congratulations to the 96% of Kingsville students and families who have taken part in this wonderful opportunity. There is always such a sense of excitement and achievement throughout the school as students share their learning with family members.

We believe that these conferences have distinct benefits for both parents and students and I hope they have been enlightening, enjoyable, rewarding and even humorous for those parents who were able to attend. Students have now taken home their portfolios to share further with you or other family members. Your child is very proud of their portfolio. It includes a range of experiences that demonstrate both growth and success. Please make sure that the portfolios come back to school so that students can continue to add evidence of their learning for the remainder of the year. Well done Kingsville learners. Well done parents and family members supporting the students. Well done Kingsville teachers and support staff for guiding the children through this process. Peter Ritchie, Assistant Principal/PYP co-ordinator

PYP Evaluation

8th-10th August 2017 As part of being an International Baccalaureate World School that offers the Primary Years Programme, schools must complete an evaluation every five years. The aim of programme evaluation is for the IB to ensure on a regular basis that the standards and practices of the programme are being maintained. Next week we welcome the evaluation team to Kingsville to complete their evaluation visit over three days. It has been a significant undertaking for the School, which required the input of students, staff and parents. During the three days, the visiting team will visit every classroom, meet every teacher, review school policies and procedures, meet with school councillors and the school principal and leadership team. This had been a significant and rewarding undertaking and we must say a big thank you to all the staff, students and community members who have supported the school in the work to get ready for this evaluation visit. Peter Ritchie, Assistant Principal/PYP co-ordinator

The PYP Exhibition in 2017 The Primary Years Programme (PYP) exhibition represents a significant event in the life of a PYP school and student, synthesizing the essential elements of the PYP and sharing them with the whole school community. As a culminating experience it is an opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile that have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. The Exhibition team is planning to begin the Exhibition journey with a conference style event on Monday 14th August. This will include a number of diverse, interesting and engaging sessions to mark the start of this special time for the year 6 students. Included in the day will be:

a welcome pack

a catered welcome, morning tea and lunch

a keynote speaker(s) to talk to the students and hook them into the significant journey they are about to undertake through an exciting, inspiring and motivating life journey story

activities and break out groups To register and pay for this event please log onto Compass and complete the permission and payment for this event. Parent / Guardian Information Night An information night is being organized for parents and guardians for Tuesday 15th August, 6.30pm - 7.30pm. This evening is designed to connect parent/guardians into the exhibition through information giving, past students’ and parents’ perspectives and a questions and answer session. For more information please see the attached information regarding this night. Peter Ritchie, Assistant Principal/PYP co-ordinator

Grade 6 Canberra Trip Students in Year Six, from our school have recently undertaken, an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. Over the course of the five day trip, they visited Parliament House, Old Parliament House, The War Memorial, The Australian Electoral Education Centre, The Royal Australian Mint, The National Capital Exhibition and Questacon. The students were able to develop a greater depth of knowledge and understanding of their current unit of inquiry into ‘How We Organise Ourselves’. The experiences were well received by the students and their level of engagement in their learning was impressive. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. Blagma Veljanoska, Leading teacher

World Vision Sponsorship update Kingsville Primary School’s vision is to build a purposeful community of active learners who can meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world and become responsible global citizens. As a PYP school, there are numerous ways that we encourage our students to be international minded. One of the ways is by modelling the taking of action by sponsoring a child from Ethiopia called Abdletif Hamza through World Vision. We have sponsored Abdletif since 2006 and receive an annual report and photo. To support the sponsoring, our students help raise money through our Student Voice team and we often have fund raising events throughout the year. I have included Abdletif’s progress report from last year and look forward to seeing his next photo and how he has grown. Thank you for your continued support. Diane Graham.
