DATES TO REMEMBER:
Christmas Concert: 27/11
Yr 7 Graduation 4/12
Term 4: 8 October to 6 December Dear Parents/ Caregivers,
On Friday’s whole school assembly, I in-troduced Mrs Daley to the school as a “contact” person for matters relating to student protection. Soon, she will be visit-ing all classrooms so that children are aware of her role. Student protection lessons continue this week. Disco The disco will be held this Friday evening, 25th October, running from 6.30—8.30 pm. It is open to all current St. Mark’s stu-dents and their parents. (It is not for those who have left St. Mark’s, older brothers and sisters.) I’m sure it will be great fun so do come along. Entry is just $2.00 per child, with food, drinks and glow sticks available for sale. I hope to see big num-bers here on Friday evening. World Teachers’ Day This Friday, we will also acknowledge and acclaim our teachers on the wonderful work that they do at a special whole school assembly. I invite you to come along if you can. Teachers in 2014 Next year, providing there are no further staffing changes, classes will be taught by Prep—Miss Waites, Mrs Wikarjusz and Mrs Wilson Year 1—Mrs Eaton / Mrs Gorman, Miss Lerkenfeldt and Miss Coleman Year 2—Ms Bonney, Mrs Neilson-Scott and Mr Biddulph / Mrs Eddy Year 3—Mrs Oudyn and Mrs Brehmer Year 4—Mrs Curry / Mrs Quinn and Mr Everett Year 5—Miss Davy and Mr Ebzery Year 5/6—Miss Donato Year 6—Mrs Daley and Mrs Cook / Mrs Gorman Year 7—Mr Fergusson Should you have a valid reason for re-questing a particular teacher next year, please contact me in writing for considera-tion.
Children are placed in classes with a great deal of thought by the class teach-ers and support staff. As you can see there are two new teachers coming to St. Mark’s next year and we will welcome them appropriately in due course. Prep Orientations I am still enrolling Prep students for next year and so places now are limited. Should you know of any eligible chil-dren, please have their parents contact the school as a matter of urgency. New students/ families will have an ori-entation morning next Wednesday, 30th October at 9.00 am. Prep students who have brothers and sisters here at the school will have their orientation morn-ing a week later, on Wednesday, 6th November at the same time. I look forward to meeting all families as they look to join our school community. P and F Dinner Spread the word! The P and F Dinner will be held on Friday night, 15th No-vember in a private room at the Rich-lands Hotel. This will be a special occa-sions for all families and any one with an association with the school over the last 50 years. All are warmly welcome. At $35 a head, it will be a night not to be missed. Book now! See the P and F page for details. Uniforms I have given reminders to some children about their uniforms, mainly hats and shoes. All children require a hat and black shoes. Please attend to this as a matter of importance. Book Lists for 2014 Brodies will again offer a service to par-ents with books needed. Next year, no book packs will be ordered. Book lists will come to you in the next few weeks.

What is Mercy?
Mercy is a quality of the heart. Being merciful means to treat others with
compassion and forgiveness. It is willing to start all over again by giving people
another chance. Mercy brings a gentleness which makes us feel safe with others.
Mercy means you feel for someone who is suffering and you do something to help.
You are practising Mercy when you …
Are willing to forgive others when you have been hurt.
Put yourself in others’ shoes.
Let your heart be touched by people who are troubled
and do something to help.
Virtue of the Week: Mercy
Wear RED for Daniel THIS FRIDAY!
When you show Mercy
to others you care for
RELATIONSHIPS!!
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation held the first Day for Daniel in
November 2005. The Day for Daniel is a National Day of Action to raise
awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. It is about
educating children and adults about keeping kids safe through child
safety and protection initiatives. It aims to help empower our children to
‘Recognise, React and Report’ if they feel something is not right. Wear Red
and Educate is the theme of for Day for Daniel as we strive to have
schools, kindergartens, businesses and communities across Australia take
action and conduct child safety activities in their local communities to
help in ‘Keeping Kids Safe’. Day for Daniel is also an opportunity for
Australians to make a statement that crimes against children are not
acceptable in modern Australia.
As part of our month of Child Protection
lessons we believe it is important to support
events such as this to help raise awareness
with our students about how to keep safe!
To help us continue this conversation with
our students everyone is invited to WEAR
RED this Friday! We ask if you are wearing
red that you bring along a gold coin
donation to help support this cause.
