As we draw to the end of the term, we have been reminded of what a supportive community we have in Cowell, through the hard work and effort that has gone into the preparations for Interschool Sports Day tomorrow. It was with regret that we were forced to postpone Tuesday’s event due to the weather conditions, however it was important to follow protocol for the safety and wellbeing of all of our students, staff and volunteers. Despite this, everyone has rallied around to make sure that Interschool will be held tomorrow, and we are looking forward hosting the 6 other schools from Central Eyre. Thank you to Jack Burton, Colleen Peters and the Sports Committee for all of their organisation and to everyone who has volunteered their time to help us out in any way. Interviews Thank you to the parents who made appointments to come in and speak with their child’s teachers over the last week and a half. We have had a good response and positive feedback about the process. This is a very important way to find out about the progress your child is making and how we can work together to help them improve. If you have not had the opportunity to make an appointment with your child’s teacher / teachers, we would still like you to arrange an interview for the first week of school. Please ring the school and talk to one of the Front office staff, or log on to www.schoolinterviews.com.au if you would like to speak to your child’s teacher. SAPSASA Two of our students – Kori Webb and Charlotte Starr are currently in Adelaide playing in the SAPSASA Softball competition. The team is being coached by Tanya Williams and is playing in Division 2 after their successful year in 2017. They have so far had 1 win and 4 losses (2 which were very close) which is a great effort. We wish them all the best for the rest of the week. Assembly The Year 11/12 Home class will be hosting an assembly this Friday at 12:20pm (lesson 5) on the basketball courts. You are most welcome to join us. NAPLAN Apologies, but I sent home the incorrect parent information in the last 2 newsletters. Our school is not doing the NAPLAN online this year – we are still doing the paper test. The correct leaflet is in today’s newsletter. Letters were sent home today to all families with students involved in NAPLAN testing.
FROM THE LEADERSHIP TEAM
Please let us know before Friday May 4th (Week 1 ,Term
2) if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s involvement, so that we can ensure all necessary accommodations /adjustments are in place before the start of the testing period in Week 3. End of Term and Holiday Security Please ask your children not to play in the school during the holidays. SCHOOL BANKING
Learning to save for the future or for that
something special is a valuable lesson for all
children.
Cowell Area School along with Bank SA
recognises the importance of regular saving and
how your child can benefit from watching their
savings grow.
Student banking occurs every TUESDAY, where
students can bring their bank books with their
money (deposit slips must be completed by the
student/parent) and a member of staff will take
them to the bank for processing.
If your child does not have an existing account
with BankSA and would like to participate in
School Banking, please visit the friendly staff at
the local Cowell Branch to arrange a new
account.

SWIMMING CLUB CARNIVAL
We celebrated the end of another successful Swimming Club season with our annual carnival on Sunday 8th April. We had great swimming weather & good participation from our young swimmers.
Our winners for the carnival are per the table below.
A huge thank-you to our head coaches Tracy Mills, Angeline Schultz, Laura Walker and Jane Smith for your dedication to the job & your expertise. Also a big thanks goes to our Assistant Instructors Erin Martens & Alexis Williams, and our helpers: Abbey Mills, Chloe Frost, Dylan Francis-Kent, Lilliana Crettenden, Lainie McFarlane, Courtney Grigg, Tilly McFarlane, Dale Franklin, Olivia Franklin and Gabby Simms. We all really appreciate your time and efforts.
Thank-you to the committee for your organisation and to all who helped out with jobs on our carnival day. We are are lucky to have a Swimming Club (not many places on EP have this) and we get a very good value-for-money service. If you are interested in being part of our committee to keep this service going, please join us. We will also be requiring more people to qualify to become coaches for next season. Thank-you to all our dedicated volunteers for a good season.
