Principal’s Report— Mr J Feeney
Welcome back to
school for our final term of
2018.
It’s great to have our
Year 6 children and the teachers supervising
them back from camp at the end of last
term. I’ve heard lots of reports of excellent
behaviour from our children, and a few stand
-out examples of children meeting our school
target of improving student wellbeing by
making personal sacrifices to help out others
of our student body in need of help. Thank-
you for this, Year 6. I couldn’t be prouder!
We’ll miss you when you leave in the very
near future!
Our other target for the year is to
improve children’s reading. It’s through
reading that children learn about most other
areas as they grow older. You can support us
to get the best outcomes for our children by
asking the children about the reading
strategies they’re learning at school, giving
them the opportunity to read at home, and
asking them about what they’ve read.
It’s gearing up to be a very exciting
term; we start our swimming lessons, which
will help keep our children safe in the
waterways over the heat of the summer
holidays.
The heat that we’re already starting to
experience is starting to impact on children’s
lunches. So many children are bringing in
healthy lunchboxes coming in, full of fruit
and dairy, which is great to see. I’d like to
suggest that along with this great food,
parents include an ice brick to keep the food
cool until lunchtime. Fruit, cheese and
yoghurt becomes less and less appealing as
the day wears on otherwise!
We are currently conducting our Prep
Enrolment Interviews. We still have some
spaces in our prep classes for next year, so if
you know anyone who still needs to enrol
their children in a Prep class for 2019, please
encourage them to make contact to our
school office to arrange an interview.
Last term, we started reviewing our
school uniform policy. There is quite a bit of
research around the benefits of having a
school uniform, including social, attendance
and behaviour. Acting on feedback from
parents and staff, we’ve re-worked the policy
to make it more specific and clearer, and
therefore more effective. It has been
included in with this newsletter. If you do
have any questions or concerns about the
policy, please do get in touch by contacting
the school office.
Next week, our P&C meeting will
be held in the staff room at 6:00pm on
Thursday, October 18th. Our P&C do a
fantastic job not only with fundraising
for our children, but also as a
consultative body to discuss future
direction for the school. If you’d like to
find out more, feel free to join us.
I look forward to working with
yourselves and your children during our
last term together for 2018. Have a
great term, everyone!

Eisteddfod Performances
Next week our school’s concert band and recorder band will be
representing the school at the annual Mackay eisteddfod. Good luck
to all participants. Just a reminder you will be wearing your school
polo shirt, long black pants, black shoes and black socks.
Instrumental Recruitment
Those students in year 3 who expressed interest in joining the
instrumental program will be tested on instruments next Wednesday
17th October. They will be pulled out of class to try the instruments
to see what instrument is easiest for them to play.
With the year 3 recruitment process now in swing it is timely to remind students in year 4 who are currently hiring an instrument that if you can, now is the time to start looking for your own instrument. We must give our instruments first to the new recruits. If it is not possible to purchase an instrument of your own please come and talk to Miss Kay. We do not want to see you leave the program, we will need to try and organise instruments from other sources.
Choir
This term we have been asked to sing carols at Wests Leagues Club
(Monday 6pm 26th November) and Rotary Carols (Saturday 6pm 8th
November). If you are in grade 4, 5 or 6 and are interested please
return the form below.
Name: __________________________
I am interested in being involved in singing Christmas Carols at the
following events:
Monday 26th November (6pm) – Wests Leagues Club
Saturday 8th November (6pm) – Rotary Carols

Welcome to Term 4
Smiley Face Fairy at Breakfast Club
We have a very industrious fairy that comes and stamps our bread
with smiley faces during the night. Thank you to our fairy for making
Breakfast Club so much fun.
Sugar Valley Lions Club
This week on parade I received a very generous cheque from the
Sugar Valley Lions Club. Thank you for you continued support of
School Chaplains in the Pioneer Valley.
Chappy’s Stationery Exchange Station
Is your child in the final term of Grade 1, 3, or 4? Do you have some
specially lined writing pads left over from the school year?
Are there stationery tools that your child no longer uses? I am
currently looking at building a stationery exchange station. This
would be a stock of donated supplies that teachers or students can
source when their own supplies run out. The parents would then
replace what the child has used so that we can maintain the stock
available. This would be available for all students to use. I know
sometimes it is difficult to remember to purchase and replace
finished books. Having resources available immediately should
reduce interruptions to learning. Any donations of new or used
supplies would be most welcome. I am currently seeking sponsorship
to support this initiative. If you would like to help, please contact me.
Cheers and Blessings

Netball
Our Senior Netball team and our Junior netball team are about to compete in a round robin competition up at Mirani High starting in Week 3 on Wednesday afternoons. The Junior Games start at 4pm, while the senior games start at 5pm . If you want to watch a fun game, come and support your school netball team. For those players involved a more detailed note will be going home this week. Again with much appreciation going to Mrs Rebecca Clarke for all her assistance with our netball teams this year. The girls had a wonderful time on the last day of term at the Gala Day and without her support this would not have been made an easy day. Thank you.
Softball
Mrs Megian has kindly offered to take a junior and senior softball team on Wednesday afternoons starting next week to play against the other Mackay schools. If you wish to support our school, the games are being held at the Mackay Softball ground in Beaconsfield. The games start at 4pm.
Swimming
Our school swimming and Life Saver Program will be commencing in Week 4 this term. The cost of this will be $48 for the 5-week program and a much-detailed letter with permission note will be sent home by the end of this week.
