Principal’s Message
Last week our Year 6 students hosted their annual Year 6 Fun Day. This year’s event was one of the most
successful in our history, raising a whopping $2,100 and was a testament to our Year 6 group’s planning and
commitment. I was very impressed with not only their organisation, but their dedication to the tasks and stalls
that they were each responsible for. I don’t want to single out any particular students because they were all
exceptional, but I’d have to say that I’m not sure I’d last an hour and a half with students throwing wet sponges
at me (extraordinary girls!). Thank you to Miss Glawson for supporting the students so wonderfully and a special
thank you to all our Year 6 parents as well. I know that many of you were up late baking and assisting with
preparations the night before!
Last week, the teachers and I guided our Year 5 students through the first step in the process of electing new
school captains. The Year 5 students were asked to nominate 2 boys and 2 girls in their year that they felt
displayed the values and skills needed to be great school leaders. We were really impressed with the maturity
the students showed in nominating their peers. The 12 students listed below received the most nominations
and will stand for election when the school votes next Thursday 20th November. Congratulations: Olli Bryers,
Nathan Edwards, Caleb Fenner, Joseph Hall, Amy Hardes, Abbie Johns, Joshua Lowery, Daniel Loxley, Jemma
Matheson, Ella Robb, Jordan Shoesmith and Molly Smith. Parents and friends are invited to attend the school
assembly next Thursday at 9:15am in the school hall where these students will deliver their speeches.
Today, we welcomed our 2015 Kindergarten students for their 2nd orientation visit and our school paused at
11:00am to mark Remembrance Day. Lest we Forget.

Finalising Payments
Last week, families who currently have outstanding and overdue accounts received a notice requesting that
these be attended to by close of business this Friday. We ask that those families who received a notice address
these quickly to allow us to finalise our school accounts before the school’s financial rollover. Any families who
are having difficulty making payments should make an appointment to discuss
their circumstances with Mr Holland. Please note: overdue notices do not include
end of year party days.

I Don’t Like Cheese – Hannah Chandler
You’ve heard us mention a number of times in the newsletter that one of our Year 6 students, Hannah Chandler,
is having the book she wrote in 2013 published and distributed through Exisle Publishing. It has been a long
process, but we are excited to say that the book will be launched officially this weekend. To coincide with this,
Hannah will be giving our students a sneak peek at her book during this Thursday’s school assembly. It is an
exciting time for Hannah and her family and we wish her all the best as the book is released. If you are
interested, copies can be ordered online at: http://www.exislepublishing.com.au/I-Don-t-Like-Cheese.html

WaterCatchers Voting
In Week 2 some of our students were involved in Hunter Water’s ‘Water Catchers Short Film Competition’. The
day was a great success, however the competition is only just beginning and the next part is up to you. Cardiff
South PS are one of nine finalists in the competition to be in the running for the $10 000 prize on offer.
Here’s what you need to do:
Go to http://www.thewatercatchers.com.au/ where you will be able to view and vote for our video, click on the
‘gallery tab’. The public votes combined with the judges’ scores will determine the winner. If we are successsful,
the $10,000 prize money will go towards water saving devices across the school so START VOTING!
Congratulations to our movie stars for their participation and success so far.
Christmas Raffle Many families have collected additional books of tickets from the office, which tells us that everyone must be
keen for a holiday. We urge families to return their complete books; this will give us time for planning and
organisation towards the raffle draw. If you do not intend on selling any of your raffle tickets, please return the
complete book to the office this week so others who are selling a lot can have the opportunity to sell them.

Parking
Just a reminder to be considerate of our neighbours when parking around the school for the afternoon pick-up.
Our neighbours are very patient with increased traffic around school activities, but they appreciate when
families avoid parking across their driveways blocking them in. The same applies when collecting students from
Cardiff High.
School Uniform update
With the end of the school year looming, it may be a good time to update parents on our new uniform. In
readiness for 2015, parents have been enquiring about when the coloured house shirts will be ready for sale.
The order is currently being finalised and it is hoped that the new sports shirts will be available for the start of
the 2015 school year. Those families whose children need a new sports shirt are advised to hold off a little bit
longer. Also, if you are buying school shoes over the holiday period, please remember that our school uniform
requirements include black shoes for the first four days of the week and where practical, white sports shoes for
sport on Fridays. School hats are available through the uniform shop and the office.
A Recount of ‘Fun Day’ Highlights by Year 6
Last Thursday, Year 6 held a very successful Fun Day. Over 300 students got to enjoy cold beverages, impressive food, music and loads of fun activities. With the help of our school community, Year 6 raised a whopping $2,100! It was the most successful Fun Day yet. Many thanks must go to our Year 6 parents for their donations and for helping their children in making this event so spectacular. Your support is very much appreciated!
Ice Cream & Fizzy Drink Stall. Katie & Candice Katie and I held the ice cream and fizzy drink stall. It was a lip-licking, fizzy-fun time. We had a lot of people come to our stall. So thanks for your wonderful support. Overall it was a fun day and one of our favourite highlights was throwing the sponge at Jordan. Thanks for your support and making it a great afternoon. Nerf Gun Stall Brayden and Toby We ran the Nerf Gun Stall… ‘It’s Nerf or nothing!’ Everybody enjoyed shooting the target and winning prizes. We were so busy, we didn’t stop. Some kids came back again and again, trying to get a better shot or try out a different gun. We made heaps of dollars for our school and had a ‘mad nerf time’!

My favourite CSPS memory is..... First time I came to CSPS preschool
How many sibblings do you have? One older sister - Lily
Things that bug me: When my sister bosses me around
Hobbies: Soccer, Pool and the card game
‘patience’.
Face Painting Stall Méabh and Emily We held the face painting stall. Unfortunately Miranda was away and missed out. It turned out we really could have used her help!!! As soon as we both finished getting our stall ready lots of kids came rushing over. We had a massive line up so we had to paint really quickly. Luckily Mrs Conrick, Mrs Wynter and Taite helped us get the job done. Thanks for your extra support!!! One of the funniest moments for us was when Cassie came to our stall and reached for the mirror, knocking over a cup of dirty water!! It was so uncomfortable!!! In the end it was a fun afternoon for everyone. We hope you liked our designs! We would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their contribution to the afternoon!!! Balloon ‘pop’ stall Jacob, Dylan and Tommy We ran the balloon pop stall! From the minute it started to the minute it ended our stall was packed. Everyone loved it, even the kindies. Lots of people were afraid of the noise and a couple of girls jumped and covered their ears with one hand. That was funny! Even our brothers and sisters came… all of them were scared of popping the balloon which made it interesting except for Caleb, Jacob’s brother, he was jumping up and down like a squirrel. We all had the funnest day on fun day. Guess What’s Under The Blanket? Cassie and Mikayla Our stall was called ‘Guess What’s Under the Blanket’ which had over 100 customers trying to guess the three mysterious items under the blanket. We had a couple of unlucky customers that had appeared at our stall over nine times and unfortunately did not win a prize from our stall. Taylor Robertson happily won our first prize which was a jar of lollies. So what were the mysterious items you ask? In the first bowl was a dolly peg and in the second bowl was a plastic chain monkey and in the last was wet sticky goo! After a very long day we decided to go crazy with the hairspray. We appreciate every ones help and support as year six gained loads of enjoyment from this activity. Joker Draw Stall Taite I ran the Joker Draw Stall. It was loads of fun with great prizes to be won. Heaps of people came to my stall and there were four lucky winners. In 1st place was Max Kocon from 1F and Mikayla Burns from 6G. In 2nd place was Cassie Jiear from 6G and Rachel Redpath in 4/5E. It was an amazing day and the best part about it was that I got to go to other people’s stalls and enjoy the activities too! Sponge Throwing Stall! Jordan & Olivia Liv and I held the Sponge Throwing Stall. This is where kids get to throw wet sponges at the year six leaders. It was very refreshing until Mr Holland came. We thought he was just coming to take some pictures until we realised he wanted to start a war between Liv and I. After that things went pear-shaped; and before we knew it Liv and I were pouring buckets of water over each other’s heads. Then some other Year 6 students came along and their aim was a little off… Even though we got a few sponge hits, Fun Day was a great day and we raised over $2000! Amazing huh?! Milkshake Stall Danika Spamer and Georgia Hogan Georgia and I ran the milkshake Stall. The flavours were chocolate, strawberry and caramel. We enjoyed serving the many customers and keeping them happy with our delicious milkshakes. Although it became hectic at times. One of the many highlights was when I didn’t put the milkshake cup completely into its holder and it splashed all over me; my hair arms and face. I was saturated! We all had loads of fun and thank you teachers and parents for helping make Fun Day successful! Hairspray Stall Jordan Davies and Emily Shortland We ran the hairspray stall, where students have the chance to go a little crazy and change the colour of their hair. Our stall was a great success and very popular. Fun day was a wonderful day and we raised a load of money for the school. Thankyou teachers and parents for your support.
Knock ‘em’ Down Ben Lockwood and Joshua Thomas Ben and I held the Knock ‘em’ Down stall. The knock ‘em’ Down stall is where you threw tennis balls at cans filled with rice to knock them down hence the name ‘Knock ‘em Down’. One of our favourite moments was when someone threw a ball at Mr Holland whilst he was taking a photo. Ben and I both had fun watching people hitting the cans from far distances and watching each other get hit by a wild tennis. Everyone had a great day and we would like to thank everyone for supporting our stall. Sliders Stall Jack and Lachlan We ran the Sliders stall and we had many highlights! We also had the longest standing line as it was a real hit. The best highlight was when I was pushing a kindergarten kid. I told him to pedal, but he thought the steering levers were the pedals! Consequently, I had a hard time pushing and my foot was really sore after being run over so many times! We now appreciate what our parents did for us when we first started riding a bike! Thanks to everyone for their support (except the kid that damaged my foot!) Fairy Floss and Marshmallow Stall Charlotte and Alyssa Alyssa and I ran the Fairy Floss and Marshmallow Stall on Fun Day. We had Mint, Strawberry and Vanilla flavoured fairy floss and rainbow marshmallows. We were so successful that we were first to run out! Our highlight was when we were making the fairy floss at home and we were dancing to the ‘Evolution of Dance’ and our parents caught us! Thanks for your Patronage! Fortune Telling Stall Storm and Tori We hosted the Fortune Telling Stall. We had many people wanting their fortune told, especially Robert Bashford in 5C who had eight fortunes! We hope they all come true Robert! We thank everyone for coming and we would like to share some weird and funny highlights. Tori’s Highlight: Near the end of Fun Day Liv came up to me from Sponge Throwing and gave me a big wet hug that soaked my cape. Storm’s Highlight: When I was helping out in Milkshake Store with Danika & Georgia, Danika was trying to make a milkshake and she put in too much milk in the cup so when she put it in the mixer it went everywhere, even up the walls and all over her. Year 6 had a fantastic day and we thankyou for participating. The Cake Stall Beth and Hannah At the annual Year 6 Fun Day held last week we had the pleasure of running the very successful Cake Stall. All students enjoyed the variety of different treats, especially the Elmo/Cookie Monster Cupcakes and the Mud Cakes supplied generously by ‘Amanda’s Awesome Cakes’. After a fun and exciting day the hard work was well worth it because all up Year 6 raised, over $2000 (which surely must be a record). Thankyou to the families of Year 6 who donated delicious treats and to everyone else who also contributed to Thursday’s events. Lolly and Lucky Dip Stall Amber I held the Lolly and Lucky Dip Stall which was a great success. The line-up was so big that Ms Ellis had to come to my rescue…thank you Ms Ellis. I was the second stall to sell out of 150 lolly bags and 100 lucky dips! Thanks to all the Cardiff South kids for supporting us!
Rainbow Teddy Raffle Rainbow Ted has been waiting patiently for someone to love him and a lovely home to go to. Last Thursday his dreams came true and Baily Johnson from KP was the lucky person to take Rainbow Ted home. Congratulations Bailey! We hope you and Rainbow Ted have lots of fun together.
