PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE: Father God, we thank You for this special time of year, when we spend extra time focused on remember-ing Jesus' death and resurrection. We thank You that Jesus spent that 40 days on earth after His resurrection appearing to so many people, even 500 people at once. So, we can be sure Jesus is risen. We thank You for Jesus sharing with His followers that “God says in his book, ‘The Christ, the special man that God will send, will get a lot of trouble, and he will die. He will be dead for 2 nights, then on the 3rd day, he will come alive again.’ That message, in God’s book, is about me. And God says you have to tell everyone about me. Tell them that they have to turn away from the bad things they do and turn to God, so that he will say they are not guilty of the bad things they did. You have to tell people in every country.” God of hope. Hear our prayer. With Anglican Board of Mission (ABM), we remember each of our Australian dioceses as they grapple with the Covid-19 pandemic, and each of ABM's Overseas Partners and their community development arms, as they deal with it too. We pray for our sisters and brothers throughout the world, as there has been about 140 million reported cases of Covid-19, and about 3 million deaths. Spare your people, O Lord, And heal them by Your mighty power. God of hope. Hear our prayer. For the people of Myanmar, we pray for peace, justice and God's protection. We pray for a good resolution to the trouble in Myanmar, and for the Gospel to go out. We pray for people to find salvation, comfort and peace through our Lord Jesus Christ. God of hope. Hear our prayer. As Muslims are fasting through daylight hours during this month of Ramadan, we pray they will be delivered from the crushing burden of striving to earn God's favour. With those praying through the 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World guide, we pray, today, for the 300,000 Muslims of Athens, Greece. We pray for refugees in Athens who have suffered and lost much, for them to rebuild their lives and find peace. We pray for pastors, church planters and organisations who are working among refugees, for their ministry to be effective and for them to have the resources to serve. We pray for dreams and visions that will lead Muslims into conversations with followers of Christ. Pray that Muslims will reach out and find God. God of hope. Hear our prayer. Father God, we pray for our church and for Reverend Morris, in this time of change. Father God, we pray for those in need. We pray for …. God of hope. Hear our prayer. Thank you for hearing our prayers today. We come together to pray the prayer you taught us: Our Father in heaven ...

PRAYER AND READINGS

his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him. But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And by faith in his name, his name itself has made this man strong, whom you see and know; and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. ‘And now, friends, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. In this way God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, that his Messiah would suffer. Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah appointed for you, that is, Jesus.’ Hear the word of the Lord Thanks be to God A READING FROM THE BOOK OF PSALMS:

PSALM 4

1 Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness: when I was hard-pressed you set me free; be gracious to me now and hear my prayer. 2 Children of earth, how long will you turn my glory to my shame: how long will you love what is worthless and seek after lies? 3 Know that the Lord has shown me his wonderful kindness: when I call to the Lord he will hear me. 4 Tremble, and do no sin: commune with your own heart upon your bed and be still.

THEME: JESUS IN OUR MIDST SENTENCE: Turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.

Acts 3.19–20

OUR PARISH PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help us to grow in love, faith and obedience as we discover meaning and direction for today and hope for tomorrow through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYER OF THE WEEK: Gracious Father, who in your great mercy made glad the disciples with the sight of the risen Lord: give us such awareness of his presence with us that we may be strengthened and sustained by

his risen life, and serve you continually in righteousness and

truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. A READING FROM THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES, CHAPTER 3, VERSES 12-20: When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, ‘You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified

APRIL 18, 2021 - THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER

5 Offer the sacrifices that are right: and put your trust in the Lord. 6 There are many who say ‘Who will show us any good?: the light of your countenance, O Lord, has gone from us.’ 7 Yet you have given my heart more gladness: that they have when their corn, wine and oil increase. 8 In peace I will lie down and sleep: for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. A READING FROM THE FIRST LETTER OF JOHN, CHAPTER 2, VERSES 15-17 AND CHAPTER 3, VERSES 1-6: Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love the world; for all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world. And the world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live for ever. See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. Everyone who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he was revealed to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him sins; no one who sins has either seen him or known him. Hear the word of the Lord Thanks be to God

THE GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE, CHAPTER 24, VERSE 36B-48: Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ Jesus himself stood among them [the disciples] and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, ‘Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.’ And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said to them, ‘Have you anything here to eat?’ They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their presence. Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. This is the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ
