VBLOCK SERIES 300 OVERVIEW
VCE represents the next evolution of IT, one focused on the
next generation data center and the future of cloud
computing. VCE seeks to eliminate the challenges that
consume todays data center resources.
VCE designs and delivers Vblock Systems, which
seamlessly integrate leading compute, network and storage
technologies. Through intelligent discovery, awareness and
automation, Vblock systems provide the highest levels of
virtualization and application performance. Vblock systems
are unique in their ability to be managed as a single entitywith a common interface that provides customer choice.
Flexible compute, storage, and virtualization management
tools enable businesses to tailor Vblock systems
management to their specific requirements.
The Vblock Series 300 is an agile and efficient data center
class system, providing modular and scalable performance.
The Vblock Series 300 features a high density, compact
fabric switch, tightly-integrated fabric-based blade servers,
and best-in-class unified storage. It is available in four models
EX, FX, GX, and HX.
Each Vblock Series 300 system contains the following key
hardware and software components:

Base configurations and scalingFor each Vblock systems model, there is a base
configuration, which is a minimum set of compute and
storage components, as well as fixed network resources.
These components are integrated within one or more 19-inch
42U cabinets. Within the base configuration, the following
hardware aspects can be customized.

Management hardware
options
An Advanced Management Pod (AMP) centralizes management of Vblock system components.
Optionally, a high-availability version of the AMP can be substituted
EMC Recover Point
Appliances (RPAs)Two to eight clustered appliances that facilitate storage replication and rapid disaster recovery
Data Mover Enclosure
(DME) packs
Available on all Vblock Series 300 models. Additional DME packs can be added for additional
X-Blades on the Vblock 300 HX, Vblock 300 GX, or Vblock 300 FX
Together, the components offer balanced CPU, I/O
bandwidth, and storage capacity relative to the compute and
storage arrays in the system. All components incorporate
redundancy into the design.
