1 BIGFIX POINT-OF-SALE DEVICE MANAGEMENT DATA SHEET BIGFIX POINT-OF-SALE DEVICE MANAGEMENT EXTENDING THE POWER OF THE BIGFIX PLATFORM TO WINDOWS POS DEVICES BIGFIX BIGFIX POINT-OF-SALE DEVICE MANAGEMENT The Need for Point-of-Sale Device Management Windows Point-of-Sale (POS) devices are business-critical for many enterprises, particularly Retail, and managing the vast quantity and diversity of these devices can be an enormous challenge. POS devices present unique management challenges not addressed by most management products, including random reboots by untrained staff, extremely low bandwidth, unreliable connections including modem and satellite links, and separate download and control channels. In addition to device-specific challenges, changing, auditing, and enforcing configuration changes across the entire Windows POS fleet is critical from an IT and business perspective. For example, some states have “tax holidays” during which no sales tax is collected from customers. To support this, POS tax rate tables must be set to zero the evening before the holiday and then reset back to normal the evening after. Organizations need to audit and enforce these changes on a large scale. Failure to do so can result in lost revenue and/or penalties.
