Hospital difficulties resolved with OKI Solution
• Lack of bar-code print integration: There are many Hospital System Applications requiring need to scan bar-codes - Not many assist with printing them.
• IT department struggle with issue: Often IT department stuck trying to understand complicated clinical process in order to meet hospitals bar-code and printing requirements.
• Results in incorrect implementations: Since most applications and IT departments don’t want to spend time to sort out thermal languages and provide continued support for them, most products are incorrectly printed on laser printers (wristbands, chart labels, pharmacy labels, prescriptions).
• Forms printing solution needed for thermal printers: Unlike laser printing, since bar-codes are tied to real world product, thermal printing will not dissipate with EHR (Electronic Health Records).

Comparison of customer options
• Other printer manufacturers admitted to not understanding end-user environments, and do not have software to provide the required interface to the hospital systems.
• We specialize in understanding the workflow process, and how to provide solutions that will meet the needs of that specific department.
• We have a ‘printer-side’ software system that can interface to any application.
• Comparison: Zebra ZPL (requires application support for language) vs DataRay MedMap (consists of Parsers, Formatters, and Logic Control System).

D2 SOLUTION: Cost Savings & Patient Safety
HIS DataRay OKI Printer
•The only hardware based, plug and play, full featured, thermal printing solution.•Same as normal Network Printserver (i.e. HP JetDirect) but with extra added intelligence•Has three layers of technology
Printer emulation / language translation (SIDM to Thermal)Data steam parsing and label reformat (MedMap)Specialty functions (Tall-Man Lettering, 2D barcode wraparound, RFID)

Have EHR? (Electronic Health Records)
Then do they have… DataRay products in support of the ARRA/HITECH incentives for EHR Stage 1 and Stage 2 Meaningful Use?

What Departments have a need?
Admitting/RegistrationHospitals using Embosser Machines (also called Blue Card, or Addressograph machines) to print patient demographics, or that use laser printers to print labels/armbands.
NursingHospitals wanting to implement a BarCode Medication Administration (BCMA), and need to implement 2D barcodes on patient wrist band and in-house pharmacy med/IV labels.
Inpatient PharmacyDot Matrix printers used to print pharmacy label. Need to print Tall Man lettering, and scan barcodes.
Doctors Offices/ER/PCP/Urgent Care CentersNeed to comply with CMS and state guidelines for printing prescriptions, which is an essential component of an eRx EHR implementation.

PHARMACY – MedMap
Before After
•Bar-coding needed for BCMA•Conform to Institute of Safe Medical Practices (ISMP)Med/IV label format guidelines

Tall Man Lettering
DOBUTAMINE DOBUTamine
DOPAMINE DOPamine
•Upper/lower case letters highlight differences between look alike/sound alike drugs•Modifiable list of FDA-identified look-a-like drug names•Minimize Adverse Drug Events
12
2D Barcode Wraparound WristBands
•Scan any part of band w/o disturbing or touching patient
•Advantages of RFID technology without the expense
•Meets FDA requirement for 2 patient specific identifiers
•Bar code compatibility with Glucometer lab scanners
•Can be made to prevent bar code workarounds

Ensuring The Highest Readability
Seven Bar-Code tips:1.Use thermal printers 2.Use Code 128 and 2D3.Print barcode perpendicular (2 reasons)4.Use highest-quality band5.Print at 2 IPS (inches per second) 6.Print correct darkness
7.Use 300 DPI
Thermal printer benefits:•Barcode print quality•No jam of labels/bands•Simple band design•Durability •Low waste / Less Cost•Very small footprint•Quite•No first-page wait time•No toner/ink to store/replace
Thermal
Laser
14
• 3”x 1” x 4-across sheet of labels (convenience without waste)• Direct Thermal Labels – No ribbon or toner cost• Instant print on demand with no warm-up period• No label jams or glue ooze as with laser labels
Patient Chart Labels (EHR-AID)
15
DataRay ODDISY (On-Demand Document Identification System
• Scan the ODDISY barcode to instantly AutoPrint new ID labels.
• Reduces excess waste resulting from pages of unused laser labels.
•Two printers and one scanner attached to one D2.•Scan wristband produces additional wristband.•Scan chart label produces additional chart label.•Can provide band production tracking system.•Band ALERT system can also be provided.•Auto configurable by band/label length.•Can receive reports from many different systems.•Remote administration.•Downtime Solution.
Excellent convenience and time saver for nursing staff.

Thermal Prescription Printer
• Replaces illegible handwritten Rx orders• Interface to EHR and prescription formatting done by DataRay• Thermal tamper resistant security paper exceeds CMS requirements•Provides counterfeit protection features that cannot be provided without security paper• Can meet all states requirements except for CA, NJ, NY• Market to Hospital ERs, Clinics, Urgent Care Centers, PCP chains
Security Features
•Blue Pantograph•Reverse RX•Coin Activated Watermark•Color Changing Ink

Market / Sales (Mail, email, call campaign) are to the department heads that are relevant to each product
•IT Director
•Pharmacy Director
•Admitting Director
•Nursing Director
•Nursing Informatics
•Patient Safety Coordinator
•Financial Officer
•Ease of installation and support - No PC based Server/Software to add•Higher quality printing - Get rid of loud, problematic dot-matrix•Manpower efficiency and reduced waist - Easier to use wristbands then laser•Convenience and efficiency - Can print readable chart labels at will•Mandatory Preparation for BCMA - Bar-coding on Wristbands and IV/Meds•Eliminate patient safety hazards - Legible print and bar-coding in hospital •Cost savings and ROI - Most economical solution
